Left Side Abdominal Pain-Need Help,In Pain

Hello,
I am a 42 yr old Female and for the last 2-3 months have been having stomach/abdominal pains
in the Left side of my stomach/abdomin below my breast and just to the left of my belly button.
At 1st the pain would be sharp stabbing pains that would come and go off and on until recently.
For the last couple of weeks the pain has been constant and now it never goes away,I can't even
sleep or lay on my left side because of the pain. If I bend over to far I can feel the pain. I have no medical
insurance until I get put on my hubby's in May 2010 so Ive been trying to wait until then to see a
Dr so I don't have to go to the ER. But im really getting worried that there could be something serious
going on in my stomach. My family has a history of heart disease and my dad had an Anurism of the
Ayorta on the very same side I am having the pain. I just don't know what to do and I have read up on many
forumns were people complain of the same symptoms that I have and Dr's can't even tell them what is
wrong with them. Can anyone here please give me some info or ideas on what the pain may be from??
Can an Appendix problem give you pain on the left side even though they are on your right side??

I almost forgot to add that on alot of occasion's mostly at night, I seem to be running
a fever and I get really cold and my face turns really red so Im not sure if this has
anything to do with what is going on as well.
My mother had her Gallbladder out and my sister Colon cancer so I am really worried
about whats going on.
