Liver enzymes

After a clean bill of health in July, an insurance medical screen in September gave me the following elevated liver enzyme levels:

ALP - 132
AST - 115
ALT -  280
GGT - 332

I have been on Crestor since May, Flomax and Sulfamethoxazole for a month and Protonix for a week before the blood was drawn.

I am in the process of having my blood drawn via my internal med doc and he has ordered basic blood work, hepaiitis and ferritin as well as asked me to have an Ultrasound. He has told me that these readings can spike for many reasons and that he often sees them come down to normal.

I'd like your opinion on that likelihood. Seems like the ALT and GGT readings are way beyond modest increases, but my doc told me that "1000" on ALT is off the charts and that readings of 280-300 are not that unusual. Please let me know your thoughts.

That is good to hear! I am glad you are ok! Though those numbers are quite high even for a cold or virus, a little odd.  Just keep an eye on it, do the health fair screening in the spring to recheck everything, stay away from high fatty foods and reduce alcohol and medication consumption if possible until then. Take care.

All - I got my bloodwork back. Liver enzymes normal and no hepatitis. Doc thinks it was just a cold or a virus.

Thanks for all comments.

Yup, medication is very bad, only take it when absolutely nessesary.  But your numbers are getting up there and you need to take care of this ASAP, if they were only 50 or so I wouldn't worry too much, but your numbers to me indicate there is a larger problem.

Is it possible you had something to drink within about oh say 48 hours before having your blood test?  No matter, your numbers are high, go to a different doctor, or or request an ultra sound, no matter what, you need to get that ultrasound and you need to do it ASAP.

You need to cut any drinking you are doing immediately, go see a doctor, do an abdominal ultra sound to see if you have a fatty liver etc.  Avoid oily foods.  You could have hepatitis or other issues, you need to see a doctor.   I am not sure why you are on medication, you need to find out why your levels are elevated first...
