Mucus and blood in stool

Had a baby a year ago, and now that the weather is looking up, i have been trying to lose those last pesky pounds of baby fat-  is this this reason I am now seeing (first time in my life, and I been having the problem since april now) whitish and/or bloody mucus in my stool?  My general doctor thinks its because of my trying to lose a few pounds.  I am worried he dismissed the symptoms too early and it's something else.  (I have had no tests done yet)  A few times my baby has accidentally elbowed me in the belly, and it was very painful, like something is getting pinched- even after she moved, but other than that the only discomfort I have felt is excessive gas, and the occasional feeling of constipation.  But, the internet has scared me (never google syptoms!!) and I need some advice and insight.  I am currently waiting for a G.I. specialist to phone me back- I am in the process of getting a referral.

Just to update:  Went to the specialist today, and he said it could be one of four things; Hemmroids, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohns Disease or polyps.  None of which I am happy about.  :(  We'll see what the colonoscopy detects...

Thankyou for your comment, mammo.  Yeah, I am thinking we need a new family doctor-  during the same appointment, I discussed anxiety that I have been feeling lately (turns out I may have pmdd since having the baby- Wacky hormones!!...)  and the doctor asked me, "Do you have the bible in your life?"  I was shocked.  I am beginning to see why his practice is so small.  I do have the GI appoinment in a week or so, I will follow up then.

You're doing the right thing!  Mucous and blood in the stool is a concern.  Bright red blood is usually hemorrhoids.  Your doctor is sooo wrong in saying this is due to you trying to lose weight!  Next step is to replace this moron.  See a GI doctor and find out what is going on.  Good luck to you.
