Need Help

Hi! I have a 3 year old son who has been constipated just about all of his life since birth, but for the past 5 months it's been on a daily basis. His doctors put him on miralax but still nothing helped and they encouraged us to go further and do a Barum Enema. Well, the doctor called back and said that they found a lot of polyps in his colon and still, a lot of stool so now we are having to go further. The doctor said this could be serious. I just want a second opinion into what could be going on. Thanks for any information!

I did some research and there is something called juvenile polyposis, where polyps show up in infancy and children.  It said they are usually benign!!  I can't see polyps being cancerous at his age anyway.  But truly understand your worry, and fears.
Blessings.......

I forgot to tell you, that polyps can be removed during a colonoscopy, which is probably the next test they will do.  They find polyps in people all the time, and remove them during this test/procedure.  Please stay in touch with me.

Hi, I don't want to worry you, but do you have a history of colon cancer in your family?  I ask this because we do, and the first symptom were mutliple polyps in the colon.  BUT with our disease the polyps don't appear until around age 10 and through puberty.  Polyps always start out benign and can, not always, turn malignant. The disease in our family is FAP, and my children were being scoped yearly for this.  They were found in both my sons at ages 12 & 16, and my grandson @ 10.  You don't want to wait on the polyps, and further testing.  But, I am all about second opinions. Do you live anywhere near Cincinnati Ohio?  Cincinnati Children's Hospital is the premiere unit in the country for Pediatric Gastroenterology.  Would you please keep me posted on this?  I do want to know what you find out, and maybe I can help. I will keep you, your family and your son in our paryers.
