Pain Near Tailbone accompanied by Stomach/intestinal discomfort

I've been having stomach problems everyday since august 28th of this year.   You can read a description of it in my journal for more info if you need.  I'm 25/f.  But the other thing that I have noticed is that there is a small kind of pain to the left of my tail bone, i cant tell if its actually in my rectum or not.  I notice it mostly when I go up hills (i like to go hiking when im not feeling to ill).  Its not really a sharp pain or anything, but its definitely there.  It also has no corralation with my BM's.  I think I've probably noticed in on and off for a little under 2 months.  And when I mentioned it to my GI he really didn't say anything.  Is this something i should be concerned about and does anyone know what might be going on? Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Gold,
Well, after what you've said now, I'm glad you're going to your GP soon, becuz I think they ought to give your gallbladder situation another look.  That seems to be the one thing that could be wrong, after reading your latest post.  Also ask them about the pain near your tailbone.

And yeah, eating that Activia stuff from the store that you have, I used to eat a third of one of those cups daily, and I ate it for a week, and gosh it helped my digestion so much when I had all those problems before.  And since your poor digestion started up after you did some antibiotics, then you might get better by eating that stuff for a while.

And while I do not think you have cancer, I do think seeing your GP again before you get those other exams is a real good idea.  I know how awful it feels to have your guts goof up, and my thoughts are really only educated guesses.
All the best, GG

I'm currently not taking any medications so theres no way that could be the culprit.  Though I was on the Keflex for a skin infection ficet before I started getting sick, it happened right around the time I stoped taking it.  I haven't been getting very cold lately so i don't thing the infection from my piercing has affected me else ware, one of the reasons i was on the keflex was to prevent the infection from spreading too.  Though a new thing I have been experiencing is getting really shaky mostly in my hands and arms and then getting dizzy were I almost faint (you now when you sort of see pulsing of light and dark and you cant really see whats around you so much anymore?) I haven't actually fainted yet, but this really kind of scares me.  I think I should go in for a follow up with my GI before my scoping on 12/29 anyway.

I've also been drinking Kefir for breakfast to try and keep my stomach flora more balanced, but that hasn't seemed to be helping a whole lot.  But maybe it will take some time, it taste really good anyway.  And I've heard that its really good for you too.  And I got some Peach Activa (sp?) yogurt but haven't tied it yet.  I also dont think the tailbone thing is from falling, it feels like it more on the inside.  So maybe your right and my systems just mesr up from me being so sock.

And your right I am VERY stressed out about it.  More so now because this is the last week that my work will let me be on medical leave.  So I'm really worried that when i go back ill have to call in alot and they might fire me.  My therapist said i should try to think about my feeling sick and become more excepting of it and just let it be instead of trying to fight it and get all upset about it.  Though so far this hasnt worked.  I like trying to relax better by reading a light hearted book.  Though maybe i will try your meditation technique as well, anythig is worth a shot at this point i guess.

Thanks so much for all your help.  Its ok that the post was on the long side.  The more you write the better chance of having something come up that might help me or someone else reading, ya know?  I will try and be less paranoid about the cancer thing from now on.

Dear Gold,
I read your journal.  I also had diarrhea, every day for six months, no one knew what was wrong.  Turned out to be one of the medications I was on, Ativan, so as soon as I switched to a milder tranquilizer, I was fine!  Altho I do still have some sensitivity to some foods.  Anyhow, you didn't say you were taking any medications or not, but review them and perhaps consider one of them might be the culprit.

Another thing that could be going on has to do with your infection from the piercing.  I know the blood tests aren't showing anything, but in your journal you said you were cold and shivering one time, which is a sign of fever and infection, and that scratchy feeling in your throat is also a sign of getting a cold or having an infection.  So, I would bring that up with your doc, ask them to please give you a different and stronger antibiotic than before, just in case.

Now, you've already been treated with probiotics, which often after a round of antibiotics, like the one you had after the infection from the piercing, the "good" bacteria in the guts will die just like the "bad" bacteria, and usually people recover all by themselves, but if the flora of the intestine doesn't go back to normal, you can get constipation, gas, and all sorts of wierd digestion problems.  So, keep that in mind if you get more antibiotic, to follow the last dose of the medicine, the next day with either Acidophilus milk or Activia yogurt at the grocery store, for several days, it restores the good bacteria.

There's also a chance your gall bladder is giving you some sort of problem, since it was inflammed, and it may have gotten worse over time, so you could ask them to check your gallbladder situation again.  It could be it's goofed up somehow or other, and if it's blocked or badly inflammed, the digestive enzymes it produces may not be released like it should be into the digestive system, and your food will not digest like it's supposed to.

As for your tailbone bothering you, that would not be the symptoms of some sort of cancer, as you asked about.  Also, at your age, you would not have that particular form of cancer anyway, period.  However, you reported some blood coming out, which can come from hemorroids, which if you strain when you go, you can get those, but they normally clear up once the digestion clears up.  So, I think if you would at home treat the situation as though you had constipation, and do these three things, and you might get to feeling better:  Exercise regularly, drink extra water, and eat more fiber (to include Cheerios with a little juice, 100 percent whole wheat bread, spagetti and salads, that sort of thing).

By the way, my tailbone hurts too, and it turns out I have nerve damage in my lower back that started out real mild, but got worse and worse.  I thought it was normal arthritic changes, which I am a female in my 50s, but the X-rays showed there were none in my low back, but that an old accident in my upper back had worsened, and caused pressure on the low back.  The pain was relieved when I was given some nerve pain medicine, as I refuse to have an operation on my back.  So, I don't think that's what is going on with your tailbone, but if you've had any accident that has affected your low back, I suppose there's a remote chance your nerves for your lower torso are goofed up and thus your digestive processes are slowed and your tailbone hurts.  But let me also say that I think the more likely reason your tailbone area is bothering you is one of two things:  Either you bruised it and don't remember it (look at it and see if it's blue like a bruise there), or all this digestive stuff is causing your whole back end to be sore in general.

I'm sorry this is so long.  I should have put this as a comment under your journal.  But I've done written this, so I hope it helps a little.  By the way, I can tell you are very stressed out about this, which means you are probably under some kind of stress in general, so you must find time in your day to completely relax, which some call it meditation, but I sit on the floor and I stare at a piece of glass in my windowsill, and I get real quiet, and concentrate on my breathing, breathing deeply, and then I just close my eyes, lay on the floor with my legs bent, and relax and daydream about stuff I like to think about, like I go to the beach in my mind and feel the sand on my feet and hear the waves, and five minutes of this will help you feel more refreshed and relaxed.

Keep us posted, I would like to know if any of this helped you.  I go at these things from a natural point of view, so I could be missing what is really going on.
