Pain in Lower Right Quad. Through to Back and Down To Hip

Hello, I am hoping someone can shed some light with a similar experience. On Arpil 27, 2008 I went to the ER with Symptoms of flushing, high heart rate and upper abdominal pain.  Since that date my symptoms have to ballooned to include burning pain in the lower right quadrant under ribs that extends down into right hip and goes through to the back, rapid weight loss (was 132 now 119), tremendous lightheadedness, andpain in the lower back, neck and spine. My stools are light in color and float with an oily residue.

At first the doctors thought perhaps "carcinoid syndrome" for which I fulfilled several criteria. However after a plethora of carcinoid tumor blood tests, a triple phase ct scan, mri of abdomin and pelvis, and an octrotide scan, and various other blood tests which returned normal....they have come up with nothing! They did find an hemangioma on the liver which was small 1 x 2 cm (approx) which the dastro doc says would not be causing these symptoms and he suspects has been there for quite some time. The hemangioma did not have the normal characteristics of a hemangioma on the CT scan but he said the MRI confirmed that indeed it was.

My life has completely changed.....I am so fatigued and weak...not to mention frightened! I am scheduled for both an endoscopy and colonoscopy on Tuesday of next week. (which I might add I do not want to have)

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? The doctor keeps mentioning stress...of course I'm stressed! I've been exceptionally ill for 4 months now and no closer to an answer than when I first presented to him. I am a 47 year old female and I feel as though I'll never get better at the rate I'm going!

Unfortunately, the pain you describe is not at all like mine. Mine is a burning, hot sensation coupled with a dull ache. I do get a occasional sharp pain in my liver area. (just below right rib that shoots towards the back)  I do know that constipation can cause all kinds of symptoms and generally make you feel crummy. If I were you I would definitely pursue this with your physician as that kind of pain for a prolonged period may be a sign of something. (However, I would attempt to guess) Does your pain lessen with a bowel movement? Hope you can find an answer. I am most concerned now with the development of this ongoing lightheadedness and spells of dizziness that accompany my discomfort. Tomorrow I am scheduled for the endoscopy....not looking forward to it. Best of luck...see your physician....keep us posted....hope you find an answer soon.

Pain:   Since May, I get this incredible pain -- like a prolonged punch in the gut -- whenever I get up from lying down, especially if I try to get up on the right. (Rolling up from laying down to sitting up, without something to grab to leverage.)  The first time it happened I nearly fell to my knees.  Another time I tried to get up from laying on my back by doing a sort of a "crunch" or sit-up and the pain was so intense I tried to "twist" past it, falling off the "bench" (in a travel trailer).  The the pain lasted for hours after that -- I really thought something had ruptured.  (But, I hoped not -- we were 80 miles from a hospital and 8,500 altitude.)

Last night, the dog jumped up while I was laying on my back and leaned her legs on my abdomen -- the pain was so sharp I nearly fainted.  And, I've noticed it is far worse when I'm constipated -- like I can't bend over at the waist at all.  (Feels like there's a watermelon or cat in there that I have to bend-over.)  Is this at all like what you all went through?

I had the same symptoms and had my gallbladder out last week.  Feel great now.

My pain was burning!  And I mean Fire Hot!  Also, a pain like a catch in the side, except it didn't go away for a long long time.  I was extremely tired, all the time.  But I also couldn't eat food, so I thought that was the cause of it.  The HIDA Scan I had done was when they injected something, I am not sure what that stuff was, in my arm, and then put me in a tunnel like machine.  It was not totally enclosed, only my abdomen was enclosed.  They took pictures over and over again.  It lasted about 45 minutes.  But I have to warn you, even though they said it was rare, the stuff they put in my arm made me sick.  I mean sick!  I threw up during the scan and all evening after.  I know it wasn't die or iodine.  But it showed them what was wrong with me, so it was soooo worth it.  I couldn't brush my teeth before without horrible pain!  But it was instant releif when I woke up from surgery.  I hope this helps and after all your syptoms, I hope it is something as simple as this.  Please keep me updated.

thanks for getting back to me. May I ask you if your symptoms were a burning pain? LIke heat? I Have both a heat type of pain and a gnawing pain in that area. Did you have any other symptoms like fatigue, dizziness? What is a HIDA scan? I've read several other posts where it is mentioned but I don't know what it is. In what way did it make you sick? Glad to hear you're feeling better. Hope to hear from you.

I am not sure if what I went through is just like what you are going through.  But I had rapid weight loss, went from 160lbs to 98lbs, no energy, pain, pain, and more pain!  They ran all the tests that you have had and same thing, nothing.  They finally did a HIDA scan, but the first one I had made me sick and there were too many rib shadows and had to have another one.  Finally after 5 months of pain and 2 months of a liquid diet, they told me my gallbladder died.  They took it out in emergency surgery, and I feel great!  It took a long time to get weight back on me.  My stomach was soooo small, I was only having about 4 bites of food and that was all I could hold for a while.  But it was nice to be able to eat food again.  I hope you find out what is wrong and can get back to normal as fast as possible.
