Problems with Whipple?

I had a whipple done 4 years ago and ever since then I have been plagued with abdominal pain. Can you suggest if it could be a mechanical problem? I am very frustrated. Have been having vomiting and nausea.

It sounds as if they did a fairly 'standard' Whiipple operation, which would mean they did take the sphincter out. Michelle, I'm not sure how well this can be resolved. I'd suggest you get in touch with your doc or surgeon and review the possibilities.

Thank you for replying to me. I don't know if they took the pylori sphincter out. I know that they took part of my colon as well as 1/3 of stomach, gallbladder and head of pancreas. So if they did that could that be the problem and could they fix it?

It could be mechanical, but have you checked to make sure that your pancreatic enzyme levels are normal? If you've vomiting, was the end of the stomach with the pylori sphincter (the muscular opening at the end of the stomach) removed? If that was removed, it can be difficult to prevent the reflux of the contents of the duodenum back into the stomach.
