I can't tell you how sorry I am that you lost your son. It just makes no sense at all since he was so healthy. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I so appreciate you telling me your story because you're right, everything has to be looked at.
I did speak to my family Dr again yesterday and she said my pancreas was checked by the scan and my blood work. She told me again what a thorough job the hospital did with my tests. Of course I have not had a scope yet. We talked about pancreas symptoms and I have none of them and it looked perfectly normal on the CT scan.
I want to give this one more week with a prescription medication she prescribed yesterday. We both agree if I don't feel better by then she will personally call a GI Dr to get me in within a week. The only reason I'm waiting is because I have no insurance and I know the GI Dr and any tests they do will be expensive.
Can you say what kind of scan your son had? I truly am so very sorry you lost him. I can't even imagine what you must be going through.
Thank you so much for all of your help and support.
Can you say what kind of scan your son had?
Yes, the blood work would show any issues with your kidneys, or liver but not the Pancreas. My son (who lived in St. Louis as well) became very ill while at work and was taken to the ER with severe stomach pain. He was diagnosed with gastritis but his liver enzymes were up so they wanted to scan his liver. Keep in mind he was an ultrathoner, avid hiker, and mountain biker. He had just ran the St. Jude Marathon a few weeks prior. He never drank or smoked and was a picture of health. Then scan came back with mets all over his liver...he had pancreatic cancer that had spread to his stomach and liver. He was 4 months into chemo before he had any symptoms and 4 months later we lost him 11-12-13. He lived in Lake St. Louis, MO. I don't tell you this to scare you, but by the time the Pancreas presents with symptoms it is too late. My son's Oncologist said he had this for years yet he felt great for 4 months after diagnosis. I guess I want you to make sure the don't skip over the Pancreas. All of us felt they made a mistake with my son because he was never sick and had no pain or yellowing of the skin, eyes, or stool even at the end. You're going in the right direction by seeing a GI doc. Please keep me posted on what you find out. Take care.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I researched pancreatitis and I don't have many of the symptoms. My heart rate is completely normal, staying in the 70's, and my blood sugar is great.
Thank you for getting back to me. Yes, I was having symptoms of either gastritis or an ulcer. The nausea, burning, burping and pain. The reason my Dr wants me on Prilosec.
Would'nt the blood test and CT scan show a pancreas problem? The ER Dr was looking for problems with that, my liver and kidneys. He said everything came back normal.
I went late on a Friday night and he said I could stay for a scope but it may not happen until that Monday. I have no insurance, this is coming out of my pocket, so I did'nt stay.
Yes, my concern is the very long wait to see a gastro Dr. I'm waiting on a call from my family Dr to recommend one or more.
Have they mentioned anything about the liver or pancreas? If fatty foods make it worse it may be Pancreas related. I don't see the correlation between Prilosec and your symptoms. Prilosec is to reduce acid in your stomach from GERD (acid reflux) and the symptoms of GERD are indigestion, burning in the throat and sometimes stomach acid backing up in your throat...you don't mention these symptoms. You really need to see a GI doctor and get your stomach scoped, and don't wait because it takes awhile to get in to see one. Keep us posted!
