Rotten egg burps, followed by vomiting/diarrhea

Hi everyone,
I'm a young teen and this is my first post. I made an account here for mainly one reason.

About five years ago, I started getting sick at school, usually on mornings. They were usually vomiting, then afterward, diarrhea. Normally I get them once or twice every year.

I'd always thought that it was due to something I ate.

But as I grew older, I noticed that before I vomit, I get burps that taste like rotten eggs. The past few years, they usually happened in the middle of the night to morning. I would wake up with a cold feeling in the upper part of my stomach, below my rib cages. It feels as if it's being pushed together.

I'd then get up thinking that it's a regular stomachache, however I'll feel bloated, and full of gas. About an hour or so, I'll start vomiting non-stop. To stop it, I have to hold my breath and cover the smell because the rotten egg smell induces my vomiting. The smell will slowly go away afterward. Sometimes, following the vomiting is diarrhea.

A few weeks ago, I woke up feeling bad. I burped, rotten eggs smell. I was scared of it. The last time I had it was around 10 months before. (The previous times, whenever I feel the burps, I would stay in the bathroom for a few hours until I finish vomiting) I sat motionless for a while, nothing happened except for the feeling of being bloated. I got up and drank some water. Walked a little more and had to vomit. It might be because of the rotten egg smell.

That last time though, I feel as if I didn't get everything out, but ignored it shortly after because I felt fine then.

But this morning, I woke up with the exact same pains. Refusing to sit by the bathroom waiting to throw up, I surfed the web hoping to get my mind off it. I drank around two cups of warm water. I felt bloated in the upper part of my stomach. All of a sudden there are little sounds from my stomach and I believe whatever's inside had moved to my intestines. Shortly after, I had diarrhea.

When my stomach is finally empty I felt better. But after eating congee and some biscuits, I burp and the rotten egg smell is still there. Now I wonder if the bacteria stays in my stomach until I fill it up with food, then vomit them back out along with the bacteria. Also, this is the first time I've had 2 .. episodes within a month.

I've read some posts about rotten egg burps, most of them suggest throwing up to solve it. I didn't vomit this time, but had diarrhea instead. Does this mean the 'virus' is going to come back soon?

I really want to solve this, instead of waiting for the next time. When I get into college and get a job, it'll be even more annoying .. I don't want rotten egg burps on an examination date!

Also, once I DO get the burps, what do you suggest I do? Is it possible that the 'virus' goes out through stool instead of throwing up?

And are there food suggested for issues like these? I'm going on a 2-day trip tomorrow and surely it'll be annoying if I get sick.

I also suffered from this issue often and have performed my own extensive research to try and self-diagnose and treat this horrible condition.

I have a theory:
Some contaminant (I believe it is Ibuprofen for me; might be different for you) is producing an auto-immune response in the stomach which causes the Pyloric Valve to stay closed, trapping all the food in your stomach.
The food is then unable to move out of the stomach and starts to rot which causes the Sulfur gasses/burps; the stomach eventually becomes noxious which produces toxins that eventually cause the diarrhea and in some cases, vomiting.

Potential Remedy:
I stopped taking Ibuprofen and have not had an episode since.  I truly believe that for me; the Pyloric Valve is rendered temporarily inoperable by the use of Ibuprofen.

I also started taking one Pro-Biotic and one Fiber pill each day (Pro-Biotic to aide in proper digestion and Fiber to help keep things moving regularly).

Even though I have not tried this; I found this information on another forum that could be beneficial to some:
Activated Charcoal pills could help aid in the relief of symptoms as it works by acting as a filter in the stomach; it will absorb both the toxins and the initial contaminant which allow the Pyloric Valve to resume normal functions.  As soon as the valve begins functioning again the noxious burps end because the source has left the stomach.
The diarrhea will still come because by the time the burps begin to smell the contents of the stomach have already rotted and are passed through for liquidation (pun intended).
CAUTION: Activated charcoal should be used only as a remedy, not as a regimen. Prolonged use may cause malnutrition due to its absorbency robbing the body of vital nutrients from your food.

I am posting this information in hopes that it helps some of you who suffer from this crap to help get it under control.

I do this quiet often I wish I knew it was maybe once a year now it's been every weekend I can't stand it I want to know what to do I get deathly sick my stomach cramps hurts so bad I do not have a gallbladder and have to take lots of meds, I would love an answer, this IS NO life!!!

My husband has this EXACT same thing, we are constantly looking for answers. He has had CT scans, HIDA scan, scopes in both ends, and of course, everything looks normal. Since no doctor seems to know WTF this is my husband deals with the few days it lasts, taking omeprozole, zofran, apple cider vinegar, with no prevail. I have Reglan from my pregnancy so we may try that next. If someone finds out WTH this disease is please let us all know!

I am in complete shock as to how. so many people are suffering from this i also have had this for many years I have had every test you could have done I've done the trip antibiotics four times and it still,comes back I've tried not drinking sodas not eating this but eating that did the yogurt probiotic pills not over eat not eat much protein what im getting at is i have tried everything and nothing has stopped this Demonic Illness MINE has no rhyme or reason it does it at night day full moon blood moon it doesn't dam matter it starts with the nasty *** fartburps that can clear a movie theatre out that's when I know it's time to dance then followed by violently throwing up. and projecting. diarehia till I'm, choking and there is nothing coming out but my ******* but I have found out that the sooner I get sick and get this out of me the quicker I will feel better so as soon as I burpfart a few times it's on I go in the bathroom and shove my finger down my throat and make myself get sick because if i don't the time between burpfats can be a and is the most miserable part of this sickness so I bring my A Game to this battle for I don't know what else to do I've seen five doctors over this the first one oh you have acid reflux. heres some zantac no duck i don't I have ten family members that have acid reflux.and none of them have the burpfart and throw up violently second doctor oh you have gurd no he'll,I don't, third doc you have a hernia fourth doc you have food poisoning omg !!! fifth,doc you have hyplori although. all tests showed negative for hyplori he did the triple antibiotics several times and here. Look up the bacteria Giardia!! Not certain about the spelling..most commonly the doc will diagnose IBS but it can't be because my husband and I both were getting it. The burpscare so rancid it clears the kids out of the house then the vomiting comes and while vomittingvthe smell makes u continue the vomiting until dry heaving uncontrollably.. Then our stomach cramps are so UNBELIEVABLE that we can see our abdomens moving..literally quivering and moving.. The kicks feel like a pregnancy 8 months along and the baby is kicking and rolling over..then comes the uncontrollable diarrhea..we have had 5 episodes in about a year..we didn't both JYST develop IBS at the same time..it started when we moved into this house.vwe gave well water and at first it was extremely hard..so hard it turned out showers and tubs brown. It smelled like sulphur/rotten eggs.we had it treated and had an iron filter and softeners added. It helped a lot but well water by nature is hard.its safe to drink and cook with technically thru testing we found this out but there is a bacteria that is water born and it's called giardia..again not certain about the spelling but it thrives in hard water in Wells and it causes sulphur burps extreme diarrhea and extreme vomiting!! I am convinced this is what is affecting us and we are going to have our water checked and ourselves checked very soon..will let u know as soon as we fund out..we cannot live with this.I am so convinced I do not cook with the water anymore unless it is going to be boiled and we do NOT let the kids drink it..never have let them drink it because of how bad it smelled when we first moved in they also brushed their teeth with bottled water until we had the water treated and the new filtration system installed and they have never been affected by it..another reason I'm convinced it's this bacteria and that it is coming from our well water!!

To everyone that has had this problem- I took these miracle pills called Prevacid. I was supppsed to take one a day but believe it or not, I took one pill and I haven't had this sickness sense. Im not a professional or anything so you might want to ask your doctor about this. Anyway, I hope I helped.

I get this too, eggy/sulphur burps that used to last all day but now only last til I vomit. I was born with GERD and had an operation when I was 8 (now 24). Although foods still trigger symptoms.

From frantic research I found it could be from protein not digesting properly in your stomach. Which made sense to me as the last time I got it I'd eaten a lot of chocolate peanuts....a lot...

So I avoid eating a lot of protein. I also read yesterday that pineapple helps digest the protein so maybe try some pineapple before or after a protein heavy meal?

I just said protein so many times haha. I hope this helps you, I constantly worry about getting those burps so I know your pain. Thankfully since watching my protein intake I haven't had them :)
