Severe Stomach Pain

For years and years I have been having severe upper abdominal pain (and i mean the most pain ive ever felt in my life). I got checked out at my hospital (they did an ultrasound). My syptoms were burning swelling and extreme pain in my upper abdominal area where I could feel the acid going round. I could even sometimes feel pain in my chest. This pain would intensify over 3 days. leaving me incapable of doing anything except staying at home and lying in constant pain with no rest (sleepless nights) and not being able to find a position to sit or lie in without feeling pain. Well the doctors said they couldnt see anything in the ultrasound, which kind of upset me and dissapointed me weirdly because atleast if they found something they could sort it out. They just came to the conclusion that I had abnormal levels of acid in my body and the treatment was to take zantac and to alter my diet. I did this and yet 2 years on about every month or so I get these episodes and the pain has increased. At the moment I am having an episode and its 2:30 in the mornin and I'm partly writing this as a distraction from the pain (it isnt working). The pain has started to get so bad that I it effects my back as it aches like hell and throbs so im in constant discomfort. Please advise me as when I have these episodes I just feel depressed beyond belief, i cry constantly (and that is rare for me) i have lost all hope and I just want it to stop or lessen in pain intesity. should i talk to the doctors again? or maybe I was misdiagnosed? any advise is really appreciated. Thanks xx

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain, that's awful :(

I wonder, have you had liver functions done, and if so do you know if they are abnormal or normal while having these attacks?

I had similar at the beginning of April, and I have discovered I get these attacks whenever I have gluten to eat.  The pain is from whatever distress my liver seems to be in when I eat gluten.  I'm not sure if this is what it is for you, but that's what I could think of, so thought I would throw that thought out there, just in case.
