Severe constipation in early teen

An early teenager who has very sensitive and anxious  temperament has always been chronically constipated but the degree of Constipation has sevrerely increased since onset of menstruation.After ovulation till her period starts nothing works strong laxative,high fiber,10-12 glasses of water.Absolutely no stool situation lingers for days.Is increase in progesterone the culprit for it? Or something else ? What is to be done ? Menstruation is normal for 3 days and regular for 25-32 days cycle.

Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums.  Constipation and menstruation can be linked especially if your daughter has constipation in general.  Progesterone is the likely culprit and your daughter is not alone.  Here's an article to review https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1378226/ and an easier read https://health.clevelandclinic.org/why-you-get-diarrhea-constipation-or-both-during-your-period/.  There aren't a lot of options for your daughter but she could try to stay hydrated and eat a clean diet, consider miralax and speak to her doctor about going on oral contraceptives to regulate this.  I know that isn't ideal but talk to her doctor about this to see what ideas they can add.
