Severe constipation that keeps coming back

For about two month now, I keep have these bad episodes of constipation where I can't poop for over a week...and every time I get rid of it, via enema or laxative, it comes back again a week later. Sometimes I'll even have diarrhea before I get constipated again. Right now I haven't gone in almost a week, again, and all my doctor tells me to use is Miralax or a stool softener. Both have worked OK in the past to temporarily fix the problem, but today, I got severe nausea and cramps with really sharp pain in my stomach. I went poop, but I have no idea why it hurt so much to take the Miralax. My doctor won't give me any other advice to fix this problem. I'm starting to get really frightened that it won't go away.

did the constipation start when you started school?
I don't think enema is necessary. Just drink more water and buy some benefiber or metamucil to increase fiber. And I cant believe your school doesnt have fruit, they usually always carry some. But if you ate a lot of fruit and now dont, that could be the cause of your constipation. a lot of fruits are high in fiber.

I eat pretty healthy, at least I try to have a balanced diet...I just started college for the first time and the meal plans don't have any fruit for some strange reason, and before college I used to eat a lot of fruit every meal. The last time I got constipated, I tried eating a lot of prunes, but what ended up helping in the end was an enema....but I truly hate those....and those are hard to take in a college environment because I don't think I could give myself an enema in a bathroom stall.

What foods are you eating? Do you drink enough water every day (60oz a day)?
Have you tried adding a fiber supplement?

I was told that once a week is within the normal limits. I'm usually once a week myself and I do a double dose of Miralax per day. Sometimes it gets very long and even became a couple days short of a month once ... hardly seems even possible not to have a bm for an entire month but I went through it. So you are not alone.
