Severe pain under right rib/upper abdomen no gallstones present

I've been having severe pain under my right rib/upper abdomen for a week which hurts when I breathe and try to sleep on my side and in the past few days shoots up into my right shoulder. The pain is consistent and painkillers don't seem to help

I've been eating as I normally do and drinking lots of water, I've just drank more alcohol in the past month than usual.

I had an ultrasound today but no gallstones were present which were my initial diagnosis. Does anyone have any suggestions? The pain is quite unbearable

Even though you don't have gallstones, could you be having gallbladder trouble?  I'd ask your doctor about that.  It could also be severe indigestion or heartburn.  Have you tried ---  and please know that I realize you are in big pain and this is a simple answer---  an OTC acid reducer like Pepcid or Tagamet? Since you saw a doctor for the procedure to rule out gallstones, what did they suggest for a cause and your next step?
