Small pea sized lump on anus?

Two weeks ago I had a bout of constipation and was straining a lot to go. The next day a grape sized lump formed around my anus that is purplish and was very painful and itchy. I began using witch hazel, vaseline and keeping the area clean, and now the lump has reduced to about the size of a pea but it is still there. It no longer itches or burns, but some days I have a deep ache in my tailbone (don't know if it's related). There is no blood and my bowel movements have returned to normal. I feel like the past couple of days it isn't really getting smaller, but is just at a standstill. Does anyone know what this could be? Of course, I am quite the hypochondriac and I am scared that it's something serious like colon cancer. I'm a 27 year old female, fairly healthy, except a bit of anxiety. I barely noticed it when I don't think about it, but it hasn't gone away completely and I am rounding week 3.

sounds like an external hemorrhoid to me as well.  I also agree with the advice form cnoevl21.  Avoid the straining.

I've had one before (external hemorrhoid) and it looked as you described. But you really shouldn't strain, regardless of the constipation. I know how hard that is to do, you just want the stool out of you, but you can cause damage from straining.

It's probably just an external hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoids are painful, swollen veins in the lower portion of the rectum or anus that can also be itchy.
For treatments you should use a corticosteroid on the area, also dabbing the area with witch hazel, like you have been doing. If you dont see any improvement or if it doesn't seem to be going away, you need to see a doctor. Some type of surgery may be necessary, like the removal of the hemorrhoid, but that's if the treatment they offer you isnt helping either.
