I'm curious about part of the original post. I have experienced a flipping/thudding sensation that I associate with my pancreas. I've only had the flipping in the last few years. I think bc I've had around 10 ERCPs now. Does anyone else feel something similar?
I have to agree with avisg. Only a pancreatic specialist should be doing these procedures. Actually a pancreatic specialist. If I were you i would get another doctor
My pancreatic specialist told me anytime the pancreas is messed with you get pancreatitis because it is the most complex organ in the body.
My family dr. put me on ciprofloxacin for the pancreatitis . I was running a fever, up and down, and the pain wasn't getting better.
It's been a week now and I just today feel a bit better. Maybe I should have gone back into the hospital. I still get pain if I eat.
I'm not liking the medicine tho. It seems to keep me awake at night. Has anyone else taken this ? My next ERCP will be Nov. 5th for the removal of the stent and cutting the bile duct side. I wonder if this med. will cause any problems, or help me avoid a repeat of the pancreatitis?
i will tell you this my specialist is 2 hours away and its worth it they keep putting you at risk for repeats of pancreatitis which is very dangerous .
I don't understand either. We have very limited choice here for this type of thing. The next nearest would be 2 hours away, according to my primary care dr.
My gastro.dr has a strong accent and I have a hard time understanding him. I ask and ask and he get's frustrated. So I've told my primary dr to translate for me. I get more info that way. Seems wrong I know.
He said something about doing it this way because I am so prone to pancreatitis. ?? But I don't see why messing around there again and again will help. Unless cutting the other duct won't upset my pancreas. I hope not, this is sure not fun.
honestly is have never heard having it done the way they are doing it with you they did mine both at the same time . The stent came out on its own .It was my gastro the sent me to the specialist he said that only a digestive disease specialist should be doing these procedures but that's just my doctor .I find it odd that they would not do them both at the same time and that they are going back in to remove the stent every time they do a ercp you are at risk at ending up with an infection .You might want a second opinion .
I learned from my primary care dr. that the gastro dr. actually did cut the pancreas duct and insert the stent. I'm starting to feel a bit better today (procedure was monday, this is friday) ,after starting a strong antibiotic yesterday to hopefully avoid going back into the hosp. because of pancreatic pain.
I'm scheduled to go back in two weeks to have that stent removed and then the other duct opened. I'm worried I will not be over this pancreatitis attack, or will get another then. I don't think my dr is a SOD specialist, but has done many. I expect he will put a stent in that one as well, and so I will go back to get that stent out a couple weeks later.
Is it as likely to get pancreatits when they are cutting the other duct?
I have had three ercps and a sent placed during the second at the same duct then three months later a dual sphincterotomy .The dual has really helped me so much they did stent me that time as well .Yes that area is very sensitive my doctor makes everyone stay overnight for pain relief and to watch for infection. It very important to find a doctor that specializes in SOD a plain gastro is not enough I learned that the hard way :)
They had to do the same thing for me due to the fact that my bile duct is also really narrow. I've had 4 ERCPs and each time had ended up with Pancreatitis anytime they were near the duct. They placed a stent in the Pancreatic duct and assured me that it would be rare for me to get pancreatitis but I did. mine is so sensitive if they go anywhere near the PD that I end up being hospitalized for 3 days on a Dilaudid PCP pump.
If they are going to be doing a sphincterotomy (cut the sphinctor of the duct) or any duct work be prepared to be sore, since they are going in and messing around.
Hope this helps. Any questions feel free to message me...I've been through 4 of them and 2 sphinctorotomies.
