Stomach pain- Is it caused by acid reflux???

Hello,

I recently began having stomach issues about two weeks ago. It started with burping after meals, which is very rare for me. My psrents had some nexium and I started taking that and it helped with the burping slightly. I then started getting a pain high up in my abdomen right under my breastbone and a burning feelumg in my back. It then moved to just a dull stomach ache that would come in waves. I went to the Gastoenterologist and I had an upper endoscopy performed on Monday 3/4/09. Hw said that I had acid reflux but he wantef me to wait for the biopsy results of the endoscopy. Those results should be back next week.

I also had an abdominal ultrasound on Tuesday. All was fine. I guess my main concern is pancreatic cancer. I don't have a history of it in my family but I worry because I know the symptoms are stomach pain. The Dr said thst the pancread is not well visualized in an ultrasound. My questiom is would the U/S show any abnormalities or masses on the pancreas? I don't think I have tha because I read tjat if you're having symptoms tje cancer is already advanced.

I also had bloodwork and all that was fine as well. A little low in iron.

I guess I get concerned because I didn't know that you get stomach pain with acid reflux. I thought it was just burning in your throat, etc. Sorry to ramble just looking for some professional insight.

Thanks

I'm waiting for the results of the endoscopy biopsy. Would that test for H. pylori infection?

Like you've probably already found out, in pancreatic cancer, pancreatic enzymes levels in the blood would be obviously changed.

Regarding to acid reflux. Acid itself does not cause burping. Burping is probably from the gas yielded from H.pylori bacteria. Ask your doctor to have a test for H. pylori infection, since this is the major cause of increased acid secretion.
