Stool color after taking barium test?

What does it mean if you take an xray and they make you drink barium, and then you need to  go to the bathroom (not urgently but you feel the need), and when you do about a couple hours later, the stool is very dark brown almost black?

I am asking because I read that 1) you're supposed to be constipated after taking the barium, not the opposite, and 2) the brarium is supposed to make stool white or light colored, which is not what happened

thanks for the info

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  This is pretty strange.  Had you taken any medications that day?  Why were you having a barium x-ray?

thanks for the welcome!  nope no meds, and i'm honestly not too sure why the doc wanted this test in the first place, although another doc thinks it is IBS.
