Too Mature for surgical help!!

So I am told age 71 is pretty old for having a surgical resection. My recent colonoscopy shows severe diverticulosis or pan-diverticulosis. Anyone out there ever get told they were a medical risk due to age?  Well I have a few other
problems this past year and had to postpone my colonoscopy. I was on here after a mild attack of diverticulitis in 2012, over a year ago.

I am leaning toward a second opinion regarding surgery. I am also wondering if anyone here has had success in
living in healthy manner with severe diverticulosis? Does one eat a moderatly high fiber diet even though the entire
intestinal track is abnormal due to this diagnosis?  Currently I am pretty healthy with arthritis and a sensitive L5
situation occasionally.

Another question. Would a biopsy be necessary despite no polyps? Perhaps someone will let me know about this should a similar situation be in common. Thanks in advance for any sharing on this subject!

Hi Padeiria Anitha, DNB

Thank you for your opinion. I've done much research about diet. Oh so many varying ideas! I am trying the Omni Diet by Tana Amen- lots of fiber suggested and eo give up diariy food with the antibiotic content. There are many loaded protein powders, two I am trying in small amounts. So far the ground flax and hemp have been fine. It is something that keeps me busy in the stores when I shop! So far I have lost 5 pounds and feel more
chipper. Also added Garcinia Combogia which seems to be making me more perky. perhaps you are familiar with this fruit supplement with a bit of potassioum among other minerals.

Has anyone else out there tried the above supplement and what was your opinion of the same? Thank you in advance for sharing. I am keeping my physician informed of my supplements too.

Hi, if currently the bowel is quite, you can lean towards a more conservative approach. Surgery as such and the post surgical complications can be avoided. And as for diet, you can try small quantities of high fibre diet and then progress. Ensure to include yogurt in your diet, it helps with the symptoms. On colonoscopy, suspicious looking polyps may be biopsied for histopathological study. Please concur with your doctor regarding this. Regards.
