Upper left quadrant discomfort - help please.

Background:

I am a 29 yo male and over the past six weeks I have had the following symptoms:

* night sweats
* weight loss - loss of muscle tone
* dark urine
* stools have ranged from loose to constipation. Mostly dark & sticky. Quite offensive smell.
* general fatigue
* white spots on hands - not on the surface of the skin. They appear more when I hang my hands down by my side. Seem to be something to do with circulation.
* general feeling of fullness on the upper left hand side of my abdominal region

These symptoms have subsided over the past three weeks. I am still getting occasional night sweats and my urine is darker than normal. One of the more concerning symptoms I have had is the intense cramping across the top of my abdomen followed by almost blacking out (possible vasovagel response??) . The feeling of fullness has remained in the upper right hand side.

Past Investigation:

Ultrasound - revealed unobtrusive gallstones & fatty liver. Everything else appeared normal. Pancreas was slightly obstructed by bowel so could not get a clear image.

Blood work - liver function test results elevated. All of the other tests came back ok.

Future investigation:

Referral to a specialist for a possible colonoscopy

Question:

Does anyone share these symptoms. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? What would be the best scan to find out what is happening (i.e., MRI / CT)? Very worried as my Dr thinks I am a hypochondriac as all of the tests have come back fine. What should I do?

Dark Urine and fatigue could be an indicator for Hepatitis C.Also your liver function tests are elevated.Hep C attacks your liver.Tell your Dr you want a hep C test.These tests are not routinely done ,you have to ask for them.Good luck and get the test!!!! There is no scan that will tell you if you have it.Only simple blood tests.Hep C also causes gastro problems.

No Hep C antibodies found nor any other infectious diseases. Most of the symptoms have remarkably gone now. I wish you all the best for your treatment. I have herd that the treatment for Hep C is very successful.

Best of luck,

Dan

If you get a referral to a gastro dr tell them you want the hep c  test and also first they check for the antibodies and then if they are positive then they will run the test to see if you do have it or not.If it comes back positive DO NOT let your family Dr treat you!!!.You tell the dr you want a Hepatologist to look at you.A hepatologist is a Dr that treats liver problems and is VERY familiar with Hep C.You can be cured if this is what you have.Let me know.I just tested Positive for hep c in March.Will be treating soon.There is a good forum on here about hep c and you can learn a lot.Ive learned alot since March.
   PS Most people dont know they have hep c until they have symptoms .Like I said it is not a test they routinly do,you have to ask for it. Let me know...cindy
