Wean Off Nexium?

hi ive been on nexium for 2 years now..i feel its causing me some problems and i want to be on as little medicine as possible so i want to wean my self off of it..i know all about the acid rebound problem if you just stop it..i take a 40mg pill once a day..what kind of weaning schedule can i use to safely wean my self off of this so i have no rebound affects..im asking here cause my dr says i can just stop it but i know i cant ive seen way to many people have the acid rebound problem and ive had it my self after missing pills for a few days

Are you replacing the Nexium with another medication?  If not you are going to have the acid problem regardless.

well im not going to take something everyday but im going to watch what i eat and if i have a problem i will take pepcid or zantac im just looking to avoid the actual rebound acid

I would suggest you go to one dose every other day for one week, then one dose every 3 days for a week, then one dose per week for 1 week.  By this time you should be able to stop altogether.

Do not do every other day. Do 20 mg for 4 days, then switch to 10 mg for 4 days, then to 5 mg for 4 days. After that, take 1 teaspoon Apple cider vinegar added to a shot glass of water. Do this every time you feel the burn coming. I also eat dill pickles and sip some of the juice. It really works. I was on Nexium for over 10 years.
