What I've always heard does NOT apply here

I've been chronically constipated for years. I think it is a genetic thing because my sister has the same problem, my dad did too and so did his mother. I always hear that there isn't enough fiber in my diet, but that isn't the issue because if I eat lots of raw veges and fruit, I will get constipated faster than if I eat soft foods. This is the case even though I drink at least 50 oz. of liquid a day. Usually I drink more than that, but when I get busy I forget so...
Has anybody else found that they get constipated more with lots of fiber?

Any change in my diet messes me up. More fiber either constipates me or causes me to sit on the toilet for 2 days straight. lol
