I am a 54 year-old thin female who was diagnosed over a year's time with having a hiatal hernia, erosive gastitis, diverticulosis and SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). I have been prescribed omeprazole 20 mg daily, Miralax, Citrucel, Klonopin .5 mg daily (anxiety) and 1/2 a Lortab 5/500 (due to painful abdominal cramps 24/7). The SIBO was recently diagnosed a month ago by HBT (positive fructose intolerance) and small bowel series showed rapid transit. I was put on Xiafaxan 550 mg b.i.d. for a 10 day course. I began to put the weight back on I had lost which was 12 lbs. After the 10 day course as the cramping did not resolve, my GI doctor restarted the Xiafaxan at same dose (which I have been on now for 2-1/2 weeks) and was told I may need to stay on it indefinitely. I would like to find something to help with abdominal cramps I have 24/7. I am unable to take Bentyl or Levsin as previously it irritated the hiatal hernia and caused more stomach upset. I did try Ultram and that had no effect. These constant abdominal cramps are severely limiting my lifestyle. I think maybe if I could control the abdominal cramping, I could then attempting decreasing the Klonopin and eliminating the Lortab. Any suggestions or relating your experience with Xiafaxan would be helpful. Thank you.
