We do not know the cause as yet, pending a consultation with a specialist. My husband does not drink alchol and did not have gallstones and eats healthy. He is into his fitness and takes care of himself. We suspect he has had 4 other flare ups previously over the last 4 years, but this was the first time we had a diagnosis. He was also admitted to hospital 3 months ago with kidney stones. GP suspects an autoimmune disease.

I agree with calgal. But in general acute can happen once and never come back. But it can also happen a month or months or however long. I had acute at first then developed chronic. So it just depends on the person and what causes it.

Helen, what was the cause of the pancreatitis? The cause may play a role in whether or not it's likely to return.
