colonoscopy and endoscopy

Gastro Dr. ordered both tests for diverticulosis and unexplained weight loss, to be done at the same visit. He prescribed Moviprep.for the prep.  But, in researching, it seems that all I read is that it makes people nauseous, vomiting, abdominal pains so bad, they had to cancel the testing. It's also extremely salty and  I'm really nervous about it.  I'm a senior citizen and  take three different hypertention meds. I reminded the Dr. of it; but he says its okay to take this prep.  Has anyone used this Moviprep and advises against it?

Preps are never fun and some side effects are almost inevitable. After all one is forcing the body to "push the envelope" with Mother Nature. I have used Moviprep and actually found it to be very effective and easier on me than some of the preps I have used in the past. It is pretty salty, but you have already addressed that with your Dr. and there appears to be no concern. I would advise you to refrigerate the prep after itis mixed, as it makes it much more palatable. I hope this helps and eases your fears. Good luck!

Thanks, both of you for your replies.  Want to tell you that I had those procedures yesterday, and it went very well.  Was put to sleep for both.  ( I was very worried that I would feel the endoscopy..and the doctor and anesthesiologist both reassured me that I would not be awake for any of it.)  The MoviPrep,, surprisingly to me, I accepted well. Didn't get much sleep that night and woke up with pretty high blood pressure and weak..but, got more normal later on after it was all over.  And today, I am not uncomfortable at all.  Dr. said he took a small polyp off and a piece of tissue from my stomach, for analysis, and will let me know the results..but that it all looked good to him.  Let's hope so!

Mara, all of the preps are miserable - for the most part - to take. To put it bluntly, the preps suck. Some may be a bit more palatable than others, but I don't think any of them are 'fun.' For the most part, many find if they chill the preps and/or hold their noses you can get the stuff down.
