First of all doctors will sit there and tell you to go on high fiber diet. That is COMPLETE ********!!! Adding fiber to your diet is basically adding bulk to a stool that is unmoving making it impossible to get out (know from experience and vomiting it up is not fun). If you go to a GI then s/he will say that it is due to your terrible diet (even if you eat fruits and veg on a regular basis and no junk for like myself). They might do a colonoscopy but that's unlikely if you are t having severe pain. My suggestion is to on e a week take 3 5mg of dulce lax and go on a liquid diet the whole day. I have chrons and I get chronic constipation and I find it helps me. It will also help to consume large amount of fruits and veg on a daily basis, this will add fiber but not so much that you plug up the intestines. Also drink about 8-9 glasses of water/juice to help soften the stool. Throughout the week take a stool softener before breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This all should help! Just remember that you should poop at least 2-3 times a day (usually after a meal).

Hi, I suffer chronic constipation and have for many years. The best combination of foods I have found to help ( go natural, medicines aren't always very effective.) are peanut butter, a gentle laxative that should be eaten once to twice a day until relief. Also, Cheerios, not the flavored kinds. One to three bowls daily. Strawberries, any berries, watch for small seeds. There are also teas that will help. Read all information about your medications, many cause constipation. If you don't really need to take it, don't. I suggest seeing a Gastroenterologist if you go more than 10 days w/out a bowel movement. Good luck! P.S. Don't over do on the water, I tried drinking gallons a day and ended up with water poisoning!
