gallbladder problems?

Back in November I had an awful night of the stomach flu and evre since then I have had many nights of unexplained nausea.  I have not thrown up since then but get extremely nauseas atleast 1-3 nights a week.  It is always late afternoon or early evening.  My gastro doctor told me it is post gastro... something basically damaged nerves in the stomach caused by having a bad stomach bug and that the nerves will heal themselves over time.  In addditon i have had many tests; colonoscopy, endoscopy, ultra sound, and blood tests, all of those came back normal.  Over the weekend I had a CCK cat scan.  These results were just borderline.  My CCK results were 34 1/2 % and normal range is 35% and above.  My doctor suggested a second opinion and consideration of removal.  I am very uneasy about having any organ removed.  Does anybody have any suggestions?  Please!

What did they suggest to you based on your HIDA scan with the results of 34%?  Like myself you are right on the borderline of having a normally functioning gallbladder.  My docotor suggest possibly getting it removed.  My gastro docotor reccomended that I not get it removed.  He says he is still convinced that I have that post gastro.... and that it will heel itself over time.  I have a consultation appointmet with a surgeon in a week to get another opinion but at this point i think I am going to opt out on the surgery.  I dont think that 1/2 % is what is causing my problems.  Do you notice that your nause and stomach problems occur around the same time of day each day?

Hi! I know what you're talking about. I ate something that "set off" my IBS about 5 months ago and have been having trouble with nausea, bloating, pain etc. ever since. I also had a Hida scan with cck. It showed 34% EF. I don't have stones. I wonder how long someone needs to suffer before something is done. I also had an upper GI series that was normal but I wonder if I need an endoscopy or colonoscopy?

I had similar test results as yours - pretty much normal, and I had to fight to get the thing taken out.  As it turned out, it really needed to be removed!  I didn't have gallstones, but the gb was chronically infected and ready to rupture, with a whole lot of scar tissue all over my upper abdomen and small intestines.

YOU know your body.  If you are really miserable and these symptoms are interfering with your life, then you have to determine if surgery is worth it.  For me, it definitely was worth it!  Some surgeons are more willing than others to remove a gb with borderline test results - just depends on who you talk to.  Ultimately, the decision is yours.

Most people recover quickly from gb surgery these days since it is done laparascopically.  Some people experience diarrhea for a while after surgery due to the increased flow of bile to the small intestines, but it usually resolves as the body adjusts.

I think a second opinion would do you some good here since you appear to be "on the fence" about the surgery.  Good luck!
