has anyone used Bentyl before?

Hi.  I had a sigmoid colon resection last January.  I just had my follow up colonoscopy and everything looked good...Thank God.  However, my gi prescribed Bentyl (sp) as he says I have a hypertrophic (?) colon, which he explained is due to all of the diverticular episodes I had, causing my colon muscle to become enlarged.  The reason he have me Bentyl is that he thinks that my colon is therefore spasming and causing me to still be experiencing some pain.  He also gave me probiotics, which I thought was great as my old gi did not believe in anything like that.  Would appreciate feed back on both Bentyl as well as Hypertrophic colon.  Thanks and God Bless.

Hi.  Thanks a lot.  I am afraid of all the side effects I have read about, constipation being one of them.  May I ask why you are taking it? Also,  I read about the drowsiness and dizziness, but what do you mean by disconnected?  Thanks.

..i'm currently on bentyl, 10 mg.  One thing I would warn you of is drowsiness; it makes me feel very dizzy at times, and gives me a disconnected feeling.  It does work some, however.  I'm taking it for intestinal spasms, and it has helped a bit.  I still have some spasms on bad days, and as the pill wears off and its nearly time to take the next one I tend to feel symptoms returning.
Also, it can cause SEVERE constipation.  I have trouble with this, and sometimes take a litte laxative just to prompt things along.
Hope it helped, ad good luck!
