liver/hives

Hi,
I have been diagnosed a fatty liver and ast was 69 alt 61 and within 30 days ast is now 89 and alt 56.  I do have some discomfort in the liver area, my ultrasound shows a fatty liver and some very mild inflammation, maybe NASH?  Not sure what's going on, I do drink but have completley stopped for about 1 month now and have lost some weight.  I'm 42 years old, female weighing 180....little overweight.  What's your opinion and what should I do, what questions do I asked the doctor, should I have a ct scan done?  Also, I have been breaking out with bad hives, I was once brought in by ambulance but recently found out I have no allergies to food, especially what I thought I was allergic to, shrimp.  I read you can be allergic to alcohol, I think the hives have stopped since I am not drinking but I still have some small breakouts.

Fatty liver together with alcohol may develop in cirrhosis.

Hives could be from adverse reaction on some drug. Are you taking aspirin or another drug? Search for "Reye syndrome".

Hi,
I don't drink much, not enough to say alcoholic.  I'm a social drinker, but stopped completely since my liver profile changed and u/s showed a fatty liver.  No-one can understand or diagnosis me with why I'm breaking out with hives, my allergist said I had no allergies through blood and urine tests.  I thought my outbreak to hives was when I would drink but last night I had a small amount of hives again.

I do take aspirin, I have too and have been taking it for years, my hives just started about 6 months ago.   I will look up the Reye Syndrome.......

I just read the "Reye Syndrome" don't think that's what it is.

My doctor called and said diet and excersise can reverse the liver, for me not to worry about it?  Not sure if that's the answer I wanted so I am seeing a gastro doctor Friday.  My doctor could be right that reversing the liver by exercising and dieting, but the gastro doctor should be able to tell me more.

Outside of the liver issue, is there any possibility that you may have gluten intolerance? Anyone in your family with celiac disease? Hives or a hive-like condition can be found in those with certain types of food issues.

you can have pain in the liver area while your liver is getting better..shrinking....so that pain may be one of the good pains..could take 3 to 6 months to slowly feel better..the liver takes time to regenerate..and it's common to have all kinds of withdrawal problems for sometimes 6 months to a year...changeing your diet, losing weight, and having anxiety can hurt...so could be your doc was right..diet and exercise..it's most likely that simple..but give it time...people that stop drinking often think they will feel all better in a couple weeks...try a year...good luck ...billy

There are many causes of fatty liver, two of most common are obesity and alcohol. Low fat diet is something what your Gi will probably tell. From alcohol, distiled beverages are especially bad for fatty liver.

You've mentioned that hives happened to be bad in the past...Testing for allergy should include skin ***** test - a small amount of solution with a suspected food is injected under the skin and then eventual reaction - a red spot - is checked in the next days. If you think it's shrimps, you can suggest the test with shrimps. If it's allergy, you'd experience some mouth tingling, throat irritation, skin itching, or diarrhea.

Hives may be purely from psychic stress.

Why are you on aspirin?

i have the same problem and dont take it  the wrong way but im happy that there are people like me,here are the things that i suspected, first it was allergy and weirdly i thougt it was shrimps 2 but  nope  that  wasnt it,then i  did  a blood test that showed a high  sgpt which is ALT ,and i found out that other than it tells u how ur liver is doing,it also  gets liberated in ur blood stream when u tear a muscle,my ige was a litl  bit high but the doctor  said that it wasnt a good indication of allergy bcoz  if i  had allergy my ige would have been a hole lot higher, now in a weird coincidence  everytime this have happened to me,the weather that day changed and became a whole lot hotter, and in most times i had worked out and i had swollen muscles.so im really confused, ive had hives during those 3 days ,it dicreased during those days, and it comes in flashes, and i found out that if u move 2 much somehow it accelerates bcoz of the blood pumping faster or somthin,i only hope that it would be just a fatty liver bcoz if that the case il just diest, dont want it to  be exercise induced anaphylaxis,i really really really wanna be able to  work out.hope  someone would have an answer
