meds and constipation

I take several different medications, some of cause cronic constipation.  Does anyone else have this problem and any ideas on what I can do.  I take stool softners each day but need a laxative to go.  I had some work done on my sigmoid colon to remove endometriosis and since then I had this problem ( the meds started at roughly the same time as the surgery.)  any ideas would be great.

They just came out with a medication that is for constipation that is caused by pain medication.  It is called Relister ( I may not have spelled that right).  You get injections of it.  Good luck!

Hi there:

I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering.  I'm not a doctor and know nothing about this stuff but I'm learning a lot from my own illness.

Are you taking a daily fibre product like Metamucil or Miralax?  In association with Colace or whatever stool softener you are currently taking, that might be something you could try?

I'm also told that digestive enzymes are a big help for many people.  Your doctor might even have samples for you to try.

Good luck and Godspeed!

All the best,

Sam
