reccurring fistulas

in the past year, my boyfriend has had surgery twice for anal fistulas and once for a cyst on his scrotum. doctors said the reasons behind the fistulas was just some kind of trauma (working out too much?) this would make sense for the first one (which they did surgery for last june). then he had bleeding again in august and they did another surgery. however, he wasnt working out or anything over the summer. In november, he had a minor procedure done in the ER for a cyst or absess, which they just drained and then sent him home, Then in January, he went in for surgery because of a cyst on his scrotum which cause extreme bleeding and swellling down there. He had no problems since then. They said the cyst had no connection to the fistulas and that was probably just cause by sweating down there. Now, for the past few days, he has had bleeding and pain down near where the previous fistulas had been. he also has pain in his leg near where it meets his but. he is tired all the time and has no motivation to do anything, he also has a fever. this is also interfering with work, as he is in pain when he works and is constently worrying he will bleed at work. he is scheduling a dr.s appt for this week to see what they say. Can anyone give me any advice/info on what could be going on here, whether the fistulas could be connected to the cysts, etc. I am worried

I was diagnosed with IBS 17 years ago, had my first internal fistula on Jan of 2007, I described the pain as a sharp arrow ( with broken glass ) being shoved up the dark tunnel, sadly 3 years later and this crazy cycle seem to be starting again.. Last surgery I was out od commission for 3 weeks, the pain itself is incredible and the post surgery sensation was a nightmare.... Really truly *****....

My uncle just had surgery to remove a fistula. The fistula was located near his anus. The doctors were thinking they were going there to remove a cyst but instead they found the fistula. Now he is 9 weeks resting at home. Does anyone know how this gets into the body? is it a bacteria or something like that? Im worried because my uncle is a very healthy man and if this can happen to him it can happen to anyone

Has your boyfriend ever been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease? I have just had my 4th surgery (2nd different fistula) and this is what I felt like when the doctor found my first fistula. I lived with swelling and pain for almost 2 years before the Crohn's Doctor sent me into emergency surgery for an abcess that was larger than an egg and was about to rupture. I now see a group of doctors at Vanderbilt Medical Center for my Crohn's Disease. The first surgeon put in a cutting seton (which was very painful) and it did not work. I then began seeing a different group of doctors and this is when I went to Vanderbilt Medical Center. I was on Remicade with my previous doctor and when I got to Vanderbilt, they started me on Humira. This medicine seems to be doing better with me, but I have now had my second fistula and abcess show up. With this one, I hurt in my legs all the time, I got to where I hurt so bad just trying to bend over and I was getting to where I could not sit down comfortably. I went back to my group of doctors before the pain got any worse. I now have a seton and a drainage tube. These are in two different areas. To the people that are facing having a seton placed, I would have to say that as long as it is not a cutting seton, the all natural ones that are just placed to hold the area open and keep it from healing incorrectly and causing another abcess. I can keep this seton in place as long as I want. It doesn't cause me any issues now and I am used to this. The one thing that drives me crazy is the drainage tubes. I wish you all the very best luck and have gained more understanding from reading all of these post. It is true that you get caught up thinking that you are going through all of this by yourself until you are able to hear things from others that have some of the same issues.

It sounds like there may be some infection given he has a fever and pain, so he needs to contact his doctor.  Does he suffer with constipation?  This will cause fissures. It does appear that more is going on than is being diagnosed, so I would have him get a second opinion.  I hope you get answers, and don't stop until you do.  It took a fourth Gastroenterologist to correctly diagnose my son, so keep going and good luck to you both!
