ride side stomach pain

hi, I have had pain on my right side under the ribcage now for 4 months.  The pain is always there, but is "controllable" until i eat something.  I seem to get some relief when my right arm is extended up above my head, because this area doesn't seem as compressed as usual.  I have had every test including bloodwork, cat scan, sono, and ultimately a hide a scan and they have all come back normal.  I was in the hospital again last night, where once again nothing was found wrong.  I also have a lump in the area that hurts to the touch.  I was discharged with lortab, and protonix.  This is not a solution for me.  I would like to know the exact cause of my pain.  Today, i am at a daze to figure out what the next step is.  I am 35 and have never had any serious illnesses, but this is scaring me.  What should i do?

Oh my gosh, I just posted a questions with the exact same symptoms as you.  Pain under right ribcage and middle back.  The pain comes and goes and is manageable but is there everyday.  Bloodwork, ultrasound, CT all normal.  I"ve been to three doctors and they all look at me like I am crazy.

Hi...I can't believe the number of people with this location of pain. I too, have been having a burning pain on right side under the ribs around to my back for four months! I have lost 18 lbs. and I was already slender! I have had a CT scan, MRI of ab/pelvis, Ultrasound of ab/pelvis and an Octreotide scan....all were normal with the exception of finding a small benign hemangioma on my liver which they said does not create any symptoms. I am at a loss as far as advice for you. I had an endoscopy last week with normal findings and I am scheduled for a colonoscopy on the 24th of this month. Do you have any other symptoms? Does the pain ever go into your hip area like mine? I also have weakness and lighheadedness....do you as well? I really want to get back to my normal self and from what I have read from others....everyone is having a difficult time with a diagnosis for their problems. Keep me advised if you come up with anything and I will do the same for you. All the Best....feel better.

I had this same thing this year but am okay now, I wondered if it had been a virus going round, I had no tests done , it started as a severe pain under my right ribs and radiated up into my shoulder and round into my back, the pain was the worst I have  experienced and listening to other people it sent a lot to the ER and they were given Morphine for the pain.It was definatly made worse by eating and I in fact went to the internet for answers it cam e back as a Gall Bladder attack,I printed the lists they gave for what to eat and what to avoid eating, mostly low fat foods, they even gave a recipe for the Pain, make a Flax seed Tea, and sip it slowly,I tried it and it did ease the pain, now perhaps your Docs ruled out Gall bladder so this information is of no use to you, the only other thing I took that coulsdhave brought it on was to take the anti histimine Hydroxyzine, and I have read that can cause a virus infection. Hope you guys get some answers soon.

Hello Rick & Nic,  This seems to be appearing more and more.  I just got over a bout of colonscopy and endoscope.  Nothing much was found.  A polyp and a hiatle hernia.
But no relief from the pain which has plagued me for more than 2 years.
The Gastro doctor is trying to persuade me to get an ERCP done but I feel very hesitant at this time.
ERCP is dangerous and from what I am told risky.
The doctor took blood to check liver enzymes but there is no way to get in touch with him so it seems.
THere was one time those enzymes were a bit high but the last 2 were very normal.
I have no advice for either of you but to try to follow your doctors instructions like I have had to do.
THere is one man on here who had a successful ERCP and so far is doing good.
That may be where I end up.
I hope and pray you both find the cause and the fix!
God bless you
Dorothy

Hi there, I am having nearly the same pain as you, in the same area. I posted about it yesterday. Have you had any endoscopy or colonoscopy yet? I've had an EGD, and my next appt isn't until Oct 31st. The pain is constant, but more like a tightness until after I eat. I can't seem to find a position that it comfortable for any length of time. Please let me know if you find anything out,and I will do the same.
