sudden unset alcohol intolerance

Searching the web for info about sudden alcohol intolerance, I found this site. I, too, am one of those people that, within a short period of time, have built up a total intolerance for alcohol. No matter what I drink or how much (one or two sips can do it) I end up being nauseous and having a very painful stomach. It takes days to get back to normal again.
Is there anything that helps? I would so much love to have just one glas of wine with dinner now and then...........................

About 3 years ago I became afflicted with a sudden intolerance to alcohol.  From the age of 18 till age 34, I was a heavy to moderate social drinker.  On an average Friday night I was able to drink anywhere from 3-6 drinks not problem.  All types of alcohol.  Then 2 years ago I suddenly stopped being able to drink.  Every time I would try it was like I had food poisoning.  Shaking, vomitting, nausea, sweating... It sucked.  I went to several doctors who all told me that it happens to women.  No real reason.  I THOUGHT THAT WAS BS.  So after many many tests.... Endoscopy, coloscopy, blood work, acid reduction treatments etc....I finally figured out that I'm suffering from SIBO.  Small Intestinal Batecteria Overgrowth.  Apparently it is hard to get rid of- but I have taken two round of antibiotics for it AND HEY!!
I CAN DRINK AGAIN!!  I recommend asking your Gastroenterolists about doing the SIBO or Hydrogen Breath Test.  It is Super easy & non invasive.

I went thru this many years ago, and found that I had to flood my system with water to stop the burning. I got pain from half a wine cooler.  I've never been much of drinker anyway so I just quit drinking alcohol for some time, and then I was fine if I had any type of alcoholic drink.  Never did know what the cause was!  Wish I could have been of more help to you, hopefully someone else can shed some light on this for you.  Take care.
