sulfur burps

In response I thought I was lactose intolerant as well I have been having sulfur burps now for most of my life it started out occurring once every couple of years with the frequency increasing as I got older. I tried cutting out dairy and that helped for 2 years then they came back and not only am I burping sulfur and diarreah and nausea and a lot of gas that bloats me and makes me look pregnant. I am now throwing up blood. I went to the DR and he put me in the hospital ( I am also a type 1 diabetic) they did an endoscopy and found I had ulcers no stomach lining. My liver produces to much bile and diabetic parisis( I do not know if spelled that correctly). These are the treatments I am currently on I take Carafate 4 times per day, Protonix 1 time per day, Reglan 4 times per day and a cocktail of Donnatal and maalox 4 times per day. I have started burping the sulfur again and the gas and diarreah but the diarreah is not as bad and neither are the burps.

You may want to ask that your gastroenterologist do a endescopy on you. They are not bad I was put to sleep with demmoral. I am sorry that I could not be of more help to you. If anyone has anymore information please foward me any information.

the cure is digestive enzymes. It's worked beautifully for me! No more of those sick symptoms. My doc said IBS has caused weak digestion and that the enzymes im using are great (I'm using Now's brand of Super Enzymes). This is the cure guys, i'm sure of it. I'm trying to spread the word because all other sorts of unnecessary things are being said online.

From all my research online this is what I have concluded and its not a whole lot of help but maybe just a little. I too suffer from these however I dont get the vomiting usually. I do have the loose stools sometimes down right liquid. I havent found anything that works for it but lemon juice straight up sometimes lessens the issues. Time is about the only thing that seems to make it better completely. Good luck and God bless.

Medical Reasons
The first common, and most serious, cause of sulfur burps are the infections of Helicobacter Pylori or Giardia. Helicobacter Pylori is a bacterium that can cause serious infection and ulcers within your stomach. Giardia is a parasite that makes its home in your lower intestine and reproduces to cause serious stomach problems. The most common ways to introduce either of these infections is through unclean water sources or poor hygiene and oral-fecal transmission. Sulfur burps can be a symptom of both of these infections.
Food Reasons
Some food may also cause sulfur burps. This is especially true in those with diets high in protein. The main culprit in food-related sulfur burps is hydrogen sulfide. If your stomach takes longer than normal to process and expel a meal high in protein, the lingering food can actually start to build up acid and cause a chemical reaction creating hydrogen sulfide. This can also explain why someone suffering from sulfur burps may also feel bloated. In these cases the sulfur burps will usually go away once the lingering protein and hydrogen sulfide is expelled.
Prescription Medications
Prescription medications may also cause sulfur burps. A quick way to find this out is just to look at your prescription label, or do a quick search for your prescription online. This should give you access to a list of ingredients. If any of the ingredients include the word sulfur, that may be producing the sulfur taste and smell of your burps.

I have these same s/s. Sulfur burping, horrible stomach cramps, vomiting. It happens if I eat a lot after I've been stressed. The only thing that "cures" it for me is if I make myself vomit so my GI tract doesn't have to do any work. BUT, what PREVENTS it every time without fail, is taking digestive enzymes with meals. This always works but only as a preventative. You can get them at whole foods or a health food store. GNC might carry them. or vitacost.com. Just a general digestive enzyme supplement, with enzymes for starches, proteins, fats, and lactose. Hope this helps.

Sulfur burps are a telltale sign of giardia. It's an amoebic infection of the gastro system. It's not life threatening. I used to get it frequently as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa (we all did), but I've since learned that it's common in certain parts of the US. They treated us with Fansidar, which I don't think is a recommended treatment in the States. You might want to do some research on Giardia to see if the symptoms match yours, and talk to your doctor about it.

My sulfur burps started when I was pregnant with my 4th child. After the burps, I vomit very fiercly and the runs are sure to follow. These symptoms are getting worse. I have an appt with my Dr. She thinks I may have a duodenal ulcer. For all of you who have this awful "sulfur Burping" Look this up. My heart goes out to you. I was so dehydrated during one episode I passed out while with my two babies. Very scary. If any one has any more information please contact me...
