upper back pain

I have gastritis - would this be causing upper back pain between shoulder blades after I eat. Antacids don't really seem to help much.

Well, I don't think it's nothing serious.

Having so much acid reflux that it causes constant upper back pain can cause Barret's esophagus and also gastric ulcer. You should ask your doctor to prescribe you more powerfull anti-acid drugs. You should also have a breath test for H. pylori which may cause all your problems.

"Problems" with fatty foods are probably from gallbladder, as suggested above. Cramping pain in upper right abdomen just below the rib cage, shortly after the meal, speak for gallbladder/biliary tree disorder (most often gall stones). Ultrasound is the first investigation, but it is often false negative, so next investigation is usually the HIDA scan, to determine gallbladder function.

Hi,

with your symptoms you also need to be checked for gall bladdere problems.  this would require an ultrasound.

Thanks for answering my question. I had a endoscopy 1 1/2 yrs. ago and that is when I found out I had gastritis. They took a tissue sample. Aren't these test done to check for ulcers? The pain between my shoulder blades after meals has been happening pretty much all the time. I also have problems eating fatty foods. Any advice is helpful.

If your gastritis causes burning stomach and if your upper back pain is like a heartburn, this may be from gastritis (GERD). In this case, before trying other anti-acid drugs, you should have a breath test for H. pylori.

But it can also be from gallbladder (referred pain).
