upper chest and right upper back/shoulder pain

Hi, I'm a 21 year old male, my symptoms started back in october of last year where I was having chest pressure/tightness located at right above the heart or so, always felt like food was getting caught in my throat or esphogus, pain got so bad one night that I went to the E.R. wehre they did an EKG which came back normal and they also gave me a substance to see if the food went down which it seemed to do. I have also had labwork done (complete blood count) which came back fine and also had a barium swallow procedure done along with an ultrasound of my gallbladder both of which came back fine. I recently had an upper endoscopy done and that also looked normal. i still get pressure/tightness in my upper chest and sometimes I seem to have right upper back/ right shoulder pain which could be something totally different from teh chest but im not sure, I do sit at a computer a lot during the day and play sports so maybe i pinched a nerve or injured the shoulder and it has nothing to do with the chest pain or maybe they are related, im just frustrated and am not sure what this all could be.

thanks a bunch,

Dan Horne

Thanks for posting a reply, I'm trying hard to stick away from fatty foods that might be causing me problems, Being relativley young when i first happened to start having these symptoms i would freak out thinking the worst possible sceniero such as a heart problem or liver or lung problems and I always feared i would end up dead by this, but latley i've been starting to think more logically becasue of a negative blood test and other such things, but even as i sit here and type this, I'm having pressure/tightness in my upper right chest/shoulder and right upper back and sometimes right around my right breast. and the pain isn't debilitating it just causes me to become uncomfortable at times and it can be a nussiance. I have a follow up at my GI on the sixth of next month, i've been on prilosec 20mg for just about a month but im sure shes going to discuss all of that with me, I just try to keep my mind off of everything but its hard.

anyway, thanks for your time,

It's possible the problem is still your gallbladder despite the negative u/s. If your ejection fraction is compromised (measured by HIDA scan and CCK injection) it could cause discomfort. Try eating a low fat diet and see if it's of any help.
