If his stools are on the 'whitish' side of the color scale, he should check with his doctor and ask to have his gallbladder and biliary system checked. The 'brown' color that we associate with a normal bowel movement is the result of the release of bile - a yellowy-green color to start. As that bile is acted on by the enzymes of the small intestine and it moves through with the 'left-over' food, it turns into a 'brown' color.
If the stool is 'white' or gray, it indicates that there is little-to-no bile accompanying the fecal material - not a good thing.
