wine and antacids

Sorry, this is gross, but since it happened to me twice, I wondered if any one else experience this.  First time was about 10 years ago:  I had a wonderful meal at a restaurant with red wine and before going to bed took an antacid.  I felt my intestines churning and woke up with signs of diarrhea on my underwear.  Last evening, again after a great meal and red wine, I took a Tums.  In the morning, same thing -- diarrhea signs on my underwear!!  Does anybody know if antacids interact with red wine to cause diarrhea?

Ok, well I personally haven't heard of red wine and antacids causing diarrhea when antacids alone aren't causing diarrhea, so I don't have anything much to say to help you.  Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Yes I do.  I started on Prilosec and had diarrhea, then switched to Nexium and a variety of others to try to solve this problem (same results).  Finally took Zantac, which is OK with my system.  Btw, I never had leakage with any of these.  The leakage occurred only in those 2 instances when I also had wine.  Thanks for asking.

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  Do you ever take antacids besides these 2 occasions when you got diarrhea?  Because antacids can cause diarrhea and if you are having loose stools and you are asleep, it can leak.
