Cough from swimming pool water ?

I am 27 and trying to learn swimming from last 2 months.
I have inhaled and swolled alot of water while learning. I am having scratchy throat since two weeks and cough has increased from last two days. I could feel water at the end of  the throat or when I inhale I could feel some water in lungs. I go to an outdoor pool. Can swimming cause this? I hve decide to not go for swimming for a week, will my eventually reduce?

Hi.  I think learning to swim is a great idea.  It's enjoyable to do and a skill that can save your life.  Swallowing pool water is not a great idea.  It has chlorine in it.  However, that is usually okay.  The real issue that you sound like you *might* be describing is secondary drowning.  This is not common, but if you a gush of water, too much water, etc. it can irritate the lungs and cause swelling.  A cough is a sign of this.  I'm not sure when this happened (that you felt water in your lungs---  but the recommendation when secondary drowning is suspected is to go to the hospital.  At the very least, you should be seen by your doctor.  They say to go within 72 hours.  They administer oxygen and diuretics to remove the fluid.  Not sure if this is what is going on with you but would not hesitate in finding out if I were you.  Let us know what the doctor says.

I know its late, but didn't go to the doctor. I suspect it was swimming that caused the issue.
Went on its own when i stopped swimming.
