Heart palpitations

Helloo am just curious about my father, hes 43 years, quite slim n healthy looking man, he smokes drinks abit of beer.
He was bouncing on my trampline drunk one night and complained hus heart rate was increasing alot, and would'nt go for about 20 minits before he insisted to ring a ambulance, he was going dizzy and sleepy, paramedics arrived put some needles in his arm and took him to hospital, were he had an injection wich brings his heart rate back down, he was fine then, he always said hes had slight palps through out his life but just the occasion thump as in an exersise session, anyways he had another one whilst in work were he was sweating but it was not that bad, again went the one stop, then hosp. Hes gotta have a operation soon wich i dont no if hes lying about but he said a metal wire of some sort up his thigh n to his chest, sounds serious but ive read on internet that somepalps arnt that bad, just wondering weather he has heart disease or some other kind, also the paramedic stated the first time the seroiuous one happend it just a bad cell in his heart or sumthing wich triggers a palp, his heart rate that night reached 220/230, Any advice on what this could be i.e diseas's or just a casual palp :)! thankyou! x

Smoking and alcohol increases your blood pressure......and can cause heart palpitations... I know cause I get them sometimes myself..... Also stress and anxiety can too.... But I think he may have something more than that...esp with the dizziness, and sleepiness ..... and such an increased heart rate...Reckon second advice is always good :) xxx

Sounds like the procedure he is going to have is a "Heart Ablation". It is when they put a wire up into his heart usually through an artery in the leg. The wire has a small electrode on the tip of it. When they find the cells that are causing the misfire, the electrode will heat up and cauterize those cells. Usually this will permanately fix the problem with the conduction of the heart. If all other tests such as Echocardiogram and stress test are normal, then he should have full recovery.
Also he should quit smoking and drinking, as this is hard on the heart, lungs and liver.
