Well, if it doesn't keep you up it probably is ok. The hospitals used to give it to me when I was sick throwing up all night then in the morning they would let me have coffee if  I was ok.

Regarding Beano, I used that too. It works pretty well for preventing gas for a while. After a year or so you get used to it and you have to take more it seems for it to work. So we gave up on it. That is why we take GasX. It seems to help more directly when I get. Beano is a preventive you take all the time GasX you can take only when you have the problem. My experience with it.

I wouldn't drink it after dinner as it may keep you up. As for whether it would affect your problem I'm not sure.

On another forum with regard to bad gas, someone suggested Beno (Beano).

I had never heard of it before apart from the comic Beano in the UK.

Do you think that using the enema tube for so long is now what is causing the gas pain? They do have a gasX pill you can swallow and its not a chewable one. I haven't tried it. You could probably take it with your warm water after dinner. If that doesn't work, I would have to think some more. Do you think the tube itself caused the problem? My grandpa used to use "salts" that would make him have diarrhea every day and he would used them every day whether or not he needed them. He lived a very long life, into his 80's anyway for being a long time smoker and alcoholic. He quit the smoking and drinking in his 60's due to high blood pressure and kept using the salts. I don't know if using the anema would ruin your intestines?  Has any doctor said anything about it being a harmful thing?  Just trying to figure out how to help.

Yes I had bad gas pain last night and the 6 pills of GasX  (I use a generic form) worked for me. I don't do it every day. It is once in a while it happens. If it is extra strength I think it is 2 or 3 pills. They have mint and cherry. You chew them. It is such sharp pain for me I can't lay down at all. It takes a little while, sometimes 30 minutes and it is gone. I hope it works for you. If it doesn't work you might want to see a doctor. I used to use Pepto bismol too but it was more when I had a burning upset stomach not the bad sharp gas pain. I'm sure something in my diet probably causes it but it is hard to stop all things that cause gas since it is normal to get gas. It is just some things are worse than others. For me I made a Italian bean soup (which I have had several times before) and that is what seemed to set it off. Let us know how it goes.

I would go with mkh9 and try the Gas X.  Gas X is simethicone - it doesn't taste bad at all.  Sort of like a breath mint - pink like Pepto Bismol - but not so chalky.
Maybe you can chew one before you get out of bed and follow it with a warm glass of water.  That should get the wind moving...

OK, then, back to the drawing board.... :D

Do you drink water?  So many people are of the opinion that they get enough water in the juices, milk and coffee they drink.... not true.

Could be lactose intolerance.  You might want to change to lactose-free milk.  Or take Lactaid before you drink milk.  - People with lactose intolerance (like me) have tummy problems when they drink milk, eat ice cream and certain cheeses. -  A heating pad on your tummy first thing in the morning will help you expel that gas.

Bicarbonate of Soda is not a sweet drink.  It is a mineral salt that is used in lots of things from health problems to baking, cleaning, and getting rid of odours.  It is also in lots of toothpastes.

You can get it from the pharmacist, or from the bakery shelf in the supermarket.  Make sure that you purchase Bicarbonate of Soda and not baking powder, they are both different.

Dill is a herb that is usually used on fish, or in pickled cucumbers.
Looks a bit like fennel.  Fennel smells like aniseed and is a hardy perennial.  Although dill looks like fennel it smells different and is an annual, which means it has to be sown every year.

If you go to the pharmacist and ask for Gripe Water he should know what it is.  It is a small bottle of clear fluid which is made from dill, it is used to settle a baby's upset tummy when it is full of wind.

You could also try a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda stirred into a glass of water and drink it. This neutralises stomach acid and relieves wind.

East small meals and chew really well before swallowing and see if that helps.  Don't eat large meals late at night before going to bed and also limit your fizzy drinks and fruit juices.

I know that chamomile tea is good for an upset stomach, but not sure if it would help with trapped wind.

Best wishes.

Dill is good for the stomach.

Gripe water which is used to help babies when they have wind is actually made from dill.

I have similar very sharp pain but it is gas. I take gas X tablets (I know you don't like meds) but I take a whole days dose which is 6 pills in a 24 hour period when I get it. But if you get it every night then it may be reflux. If so you may need an upper GI to check out what it is. I have reflux too and that  maybe why so sometimes I get stomach pain but the reflux I get I don't feel regurgitation or acid in my throat it is higher up and so I don't feel it. The doctor said I can take Zantakc 150 over the counter pills for a month or two to help with the stomach pain when I get it. I don't know for sure this is what you have but the gasX helps a lot for me. It takes about 45 minutes to work and I can't lay down because it hurts too bad when I get the gas pains. My pains are in the chest on the left side (no I don't have heart trouble). For you since you haven' tried anything I would try the gasX. If it doesn't work then go to the doctor. Make sure if you get the regular type or extra strength that you don't take to many at once.

You do not say for how long you are experiencing this problem.

It may not be wind.
Kidney stones can give pain in the side called "renal colic".
Left side pain can also be from womb or ovary problems.

As you do not say if you have any other symptoms but only this "wind pain" in your left side, I would suggest you see your doctor to check you out.

Best wishes.
