Is this itchy mola problem for concern?

About 5 or 10 years ago I developed a mole between my breasts about an inch above where my bra attaches. It was relatively flat but still raised compared to some of my other more noticably raised bumpy moles. It was dark brown and kind of egg shaped with jagged edges. Half of it is attached to my skin and the rest of it overhangs my skin. Last Saturday it started to itch, painful even. I noticed that it was no longer flat looking, but much more puffy and now flesh to pink colored. I've kept a bandaide over it to protect it from myself in case I try to scratch it without thinking. How long should I wait until I seek medical advice of this mole? I'm unemployed and without medical insurance so I'm not in a big rush to go out and have it removed simply for the sake of having it removed, but I also was to be responsible about it. Any advice?

Thank you all for your comments. I called my doctor and apparently she had made a previous note about the 3 moles I have clustered there in that area. She would like me to come in to have them all removed, including one on my hip. They quoted me a very price so I will be saving my money to go in. In the meantime, I am religiously applying 50+ sunscreen to all areas of my body and bandaides to those that are exposed to the sun.

My roommate took a closer look at all of them than I am capable of and she expressed concern over several moles. Apparently there is one on my back, the one on my hip, one on the back of my neck and the one on my chest that look strange to her. All have a rainbow of colors and odd shapes to them.

i would take the bandaid off, the air should do it good but watch it to make sure it doesnt go course, grow in diametre, grow hairs or bleed. this is unlikely but possible. and yes, i would get it checked out by a doctor. a bit of money is worth protecting your life. i had a mole that was turning cancerous, the doctors caught it on time though because i went to see them about it. best of luck

get it checked out.. 1 trip to a dermatologist may be a hundred bucks.. but numerous trips to specialist and surgeries in the unlikely event that it is something serious will cost infinitely more monetarily physically and spiritually.. Good luck

Hi and sorry you have this problem. Because it has changed color you need to have someone look at it. There is a good slide show on WebMD and other sites that shows cancerous and non cancerous moles. The rule of thumb is if it grows, changes in shape, color , is not symmetrical if you divide it in half one side is different that the other and so forth. It may be nothing but it could be and you don't want to take a change due to a bit of money for  an office call.
take care,
