Pinch Nerve-In My Back

Well, I have been having this crazy pain that I can't get rid of in the left side of my lower-back ever since I was in my early twenties. When it gets really bad it starts hurting like crazy and then my back becomes numb and tingles. Why is that? What can be done about it? My doctor says nothing can be done. But, I refuse to hear that! I know it has to be some type of option(s) out here. They have options out here for other back concerns. Then why not mine? Ok. Enough said. Now, I do take pain killers for it. That works for the moment. But, I need something a little long term. Looking for all suggestions and advice! Thanks in advance!

I'm going to have her referrer me to one. I need to see what is going on with my back. This is crazy! Thanks for the load advice--I needed it!  Well, I have to try the pillow between my legs. And see if that helps me any!

Sounds like a nerve impingement (pinched nerve) or a nerve entrapment.  I would guess in the area of the lower thoracic/lumbar spine.  You need imaging of the lower thoracic/lumbar spine ASAP, i.e. MRI.  You need to sort this out NOW.

Your regular doctor should have referred you out to someone.  Yeah, she might not be able to do anything about it, however, she is NO Neurologist or Orthopedic Specialist.  Keep that in mind.

Actually, a pillow between the legs or under the knees while sleeping will take pressure off the lower back; believe it or not it works.  Don't use a pillow too fluffy or too firm.  Yes, it sounds goofy, but it might work for you.  Try NOT to sleep on your tummy/stomach; that position puts stress on the spine plus it is not good for your facial skin.  The best position for you to sleep in would be on your side.  If you are carrying any extra weight, get it off.  Make sure your mattress is a decent mattress for someone with back issues.  A good mattress MAKES all the difference.  I tend to have pain in my neck and lower back if I sleep on a crappy mattress.

Chiropractors......hmmmm.......yes and no......meaning they are great if you DON'T have any serious issues going on with your back/spine.

You definitely need to be consulting a Neurologist and/or an Orthopedic Specialist dealing with spine issues only.  CONSULT the NEUROLOGIST for starts.  Your regular physician seems to be "blowing" this off.

No, never tried--because I move all night and all positions (stomach, back and both sides) when I sleep. Plus that would feel very awkward to me a pillow between my legs. Lol! Thank you very much for the input!

I have not had those test done before. I've been to a chiropractor at the age of 22 and she told me my vertebrates are bending. So she also told me as the older I get? The more the pain and bending will be. I was also told to do simple back exercises! Um, like those help--for the moment! My doctor told me nothing could be done, this is very recent-- three weeks ago to be act! Smh! I might see if she can refer me to an Neurologist. That will solve all this madness.

Have you had any imaging of your lower back done, i.e. MRI?  Have you ever consulted a Neurologist?

What physician is telling you nothing can't be done?
