Severe Eye Infection

I have an eye infection so severe that my eye is swollen shut.  It started 4 days ago.  I had a pain behind my eye.  It felt like something was growing next to the bone of my eye socket along the inner left eye.  The next day, there was no swelling, no redness, but it hurt to move my eye.  The day after that, the eye lid and inner eye started swelling and there was a discharge from the corner of the eye next to the nose.  I went to the doctor who gave me a shot of antibiotic and prescribed oral antibiotics.  That was 2 days ago.  The eye is not any better.  In fact, it is more swollen and is now swollen shut.  It is still discharging pus and is very painful.  Because it is the weekend, my doctor is not in the office.  Should I wait until Monday to see if the antibiotics kick in or go to the ER?  This is very frightening because it is my eye and I do not want to lose vision in it.  I should mention that I also have a sinus infection.

Do you have fever, headache or any other symptoms? I think you should see an eye doctor soon. Its possible the antibiotic the doctor gave you is not what you need. The doctor should order a culture from the discharge to make sure the organism causing the infection is sensitive the antibiotic.
