Trying to understand my blood test

I have received weird blood test results:

My HDL cholesterol was rated 41
My LDL cholesterol was rated 172
My triglycerides were rated 67

I did some online digging and found that usually triglyceride levels in people who have heart disease and conditions are equally high to their LDL.  So what can explain my disparity?

I would like to add that i'm naturally skinny, do weight lifting on average 10 hours a week but i do take alot of protein supplements such as whey, arginine and lysine.  Can this be the factor to these numbers?

Thank you in advance.

In my opinion, the numbers are fine, however, to get a complete picture, you need to let us know your total cholesterol readings as well.

Hi,

Unfortunately, Whey protein does contain cholesterol and in some instances quite a lot. However, when companies market these products they do not want to advertise this fact. If you are consuming 3 scoops of this stuff daily like I used to over a prolonged period of time, its going to raise your Bad (LDL) Choloesterol to the levels you are showing.
Google "whey protein cholesterol" and a number of forums will discuss this matter in more details esp the body building ones. If you want a cholesterol free protein source eat raw egg whites with milk.

Hope this helps

What was your total cholesterol?  Do you eat alot of dairy and/or meat?  Anyone in your family with cholesterol issues?

"Naturally Skinny" has nothing to do with cholesterol or being healthy; diet, heredity and activity DO.

In my opinion, the protein supplements and elevated LDL have NO correlation, though these supplements CAN be harsh on the kidneys IF taken in excess.
