Was the piercing done in cartilage? That can sometimes take longer to heal. Are you leaving them alone to heal? With any new piercing, I think we all have a tendency to touch them frequently, to twist them which can break the newly healing skin and if our fingers are not exactly "sterile," we can introduce an infection and that can turn into a real mess if we don't stay on top of it. And while I know you've stated that you're wearing diamond studs, unfortunately, that doesn't necessary mean that the rest of the earring is platinum or pure silver, gold, stainless steal or surgical steal. It could be gold or silver plated nickel. This is not a problem as long as you are not allergic to baser metals like nickel. Once the plating wears off, which happens pretty fast with our sweat, then the nickel has direct access to skin and all hell can break loose. Even if you had your ears pierced two months ago, the gold or silver plating could easily take that long to wear off. And even though your ear is nearly completely healed by now, the nickel can still works its way into your skin causing a very nasty reaction. I am 67 years old and when I was at a slumber party, we all pierced each other's ears with an ice cube, a potato and a knitting needle. (Surprisingly, it didn't hurt!) But few of us could afford real gold or silver earrings and 4 of us developed severe metal allergies to nickel. All these years later, when my ears have most definitely healed up, if I put in a pair of earrings that have nickel ANYWHERE on them, within 4 hours I am in trouble! My ears begin to itch and the lobes ache and by nightfall, my lymph nodes have swollen badly and are very painful. I've been known to scratch them until they bleed. Once I take the damn things, I have to clean them many. many times a day with peroxide and rub an antibiotic ointment on them. If the lymph nodes don't begin to go down within two days, I go to a doctor for antibiotics. That yours are itching and not closing us definitely means something is wrong and it's most likely with the earrings. I am NOT saying the diamonds are fake, but it sure sounds like the rest is. You could go to a doctor right away, but since you aren't in agony and your nodes don't seem to be bothered, I'd try taking them out and soaking them for a few days in peroxide. (You can take them out in a couple days and let air dry so you can take them to a jewelry who will tell you exactly what you've got) Then get busy taking care of your ears. Hot, soapy water first, plenty of cotton balls soaked in peroxide then squeeze your lobes between it quick hard...…...not only to make sure the peroxide gets in there, but any pus gets OUT. I won't lie, it's going to hurt. Let air dry for a couple hours then apply some antibiotic ointment, squeezing your lobes at the same time to get it inside. (VERY clean hands!) You can do one of two things here...….you can leave earrings out of your ears during this process, but know that when the healing begins and you go to put other earrings in, you'll have to sort of "re-pierce" your lobes, which will cause them to hurt and bleed again. And you'll have to keep up the peroxide for quite a few more days. OR...…….you can go to a jewelry store and buy some pure gold studs, put those in while you're nursing your ears back to health and turn them at least 20-30 times a day so they don't stick to the new forming skin. (Leave them in 24 hours a day) In the morning, it's best to do this with a cotton soaked peroxide ball to avoid germs. I would plan on doing this routine for at least 6-8 weeks. I now have 6 piercings in each ear and the ONLY ones that STILL give me grief are the ones I did when I was 14 years old!!!! How ears that have been healed for 53 YEARS can still get infected when I were cheap earrings is a mystery, but don't put yourself through what I did. Go quality or let them close up. Good luck! (Sorry for the rant, been drinking coffee all day and I'm ready to TALK)
