Will getting your tonsils out keep you from getting sick all the time?

Compared to most people that I know, I have a weaker immune system. I have been this way since I was a kid. I just can be in the same room with someone who is sick and I will get whatever they have.  I have been told by a couple of my adult friends that they had their tonsils out and that they do not ever get sinus infections or upper respiratory infections anymore. So, if they tonsils are part of the immune system and they are supposed to help you from getting sick, why does it seem that getting them removed keeps you from getting sick?

Mushrooms are not only delicious, but many provide health benefits as well. A respectable source of protein on their own, mushrooms provide all the essential amino acids when combined with grains. Low in fat and carbohydrates, mushrooms also deliver useful amounts of some B vitamins and trace minerals.

Healthy cooking methods include:
1. In a pan or wok - sauté in a bit of olive or grapeseed oil, preferably with mixed vegetables.
2. In a pot - simmer in broth.
3. On the grill - fresh shiitakes are delicious basted in a little teriyaki sauce. (Mix equal parts dry sherry or sake, one part reduced-sodium Japanese soy sauce, and one tablespoon of sugar for each cup of liquid.)
It's important to thoroughly cook mushrooms since their cell walls are tough and the digestive system may have to work hard to get their full nutritional benefits. Heat will help eliminate that problem, as well as bring out the best flavors and textures.

Thre is no justification for removing tonsils prophalactically unless they are chronically inflamed and infected.

I agree with these useful posts.  They are such great additional information about supporting the immune system.  And, while I agree that what tana_h says is true, I would certainly do everything possible to support the immune system first as all of us have given you some information on ways to do this.  Definitely try these simple natural steps first.  You can meld all this information with eating for your right blood type.  For example:  Blood type "O" greatly benefits the most from the maitake mushrooms but not as much from the shitake mushrooms.  In fact, the maitake is right there at the top of the list for people with blood type "O".  I have also noticed that fresh maitake mushrooms are much more available in the produce section of my favorite natural grocery store and are more affordable than they used to be.  So, applying these useful tips to your own blood type will enhance your immune system immensely.  I read some information on his site about some personal experiences of some people who applied the blood type diet in their own lives and definitely started feeling better.  They were not blood type "O" people that I read the story about that I remember, so as soon as they at the right diet for their blood type, their immune systems also got stronger.  Everything that the above posts is correct and will not conflict with the blood type diet.  Like I said, meld the information together.

And, definitely listen to what Gymdandee said about the turmeric and curcumin.  Turmeric is wonderful for all blood types.  And, he is absolutely correct about organic.  As for spices that are both affordable and organic, I've gotten many from Trader Joe's that are both affordable and organic.  And, they are in GLASS jars.  Glass is best, because glass is inert.

Eat mushrooms! Mushrooms, including maitake
and shiitake, are among the most researched immuneboosting, infection-preventing foods. Among their principal active ingredients are polysaccharides, which can improve the body’s germ-fighting capabilities. If mushrooms aren’t already part of your family’s diet,
start to include them. You can even find cookbooks devoted solely to mushroom information and recipes.
Aloe vera (whose active ingredients also contain polysaccharides). A dosage of 50 to 100 milligrams daily of aloe-leaf concentrate containing 1 percent or more acemannan is significant and useful.
Researchers have found that a basic multivitamin/mineral supplement can reduce overall illness, including infection, especially among the older population (age 60 and up). Make
sure to take one every day. You may want to supplement your multivitamin with more of the following: Vitamin A. For most adults (except pregnant mothers), 15,000 to 25,000 IU is an appropriate and safe level. For children, 5,000 to 10,000 IU is generally safe. Before using more for either children or adults, it’s wisest to consult a physician skilled and knowledgeable in nutritional medicine.
Zinc. For adults and teen-agers, 30 milligrams of zinc (picolinate or citrate) daily; for smaller children above 2 years of age, 15 milligrams daily. Note: Zinc supplements should usually be offset by a small amount of copper, 1-2 milligrams daily.
Vitamin C. One gram (1,000 milligrams) two or three times daily for adults and a minimum of “20 milligrams per pound” for children. (The “vitamin C causes kidney stones” myth has been largely disproven.)
Echinacea. Some readers may be surprised to read that echinacea can be used daily to prevent infection as well as as a treatment once infection is present.
Astragalus, Andrographus, and Picrorrhiza. If used as individual herbs, 2 to 6 grams of dried Astragalus root or dried Andrographus daily is appropriate and safe. For Picrorrhiza, daily amounts are 500 milligrams to 2 grams; higher doses can cause gas, diarrhea, and a skin rash. Note: A basic principle of effective nutritional and botanical treatment is to use a
little of several effective items rather than a large amount of just one.

Hi Iramala, I noticed this post (see my note to gymdandee regarding diet too). I wouldn't get your tonsils out as an adult it is somewhat risky for an adult. There has to be a really good reason for the doctor to want to do this. They don't do it much on adults any more. Your tonsils are part of your immune system as is your appendix. However, of course appendicitis is dangerous and has to be removed when necessary. If you have had a low immune system this would account for the repeated Mycoplasma infection too.  In addition to Vitamin D, have you had your Immunoglobulin level tested? They have several other immune tests to check and see why you have a lower immune system. You can also get a complete blood count to see if you have enough white blood cells to fight off bacteria.

Hi how are you?  I was wondering how much curcumin or Turmeric you use per day. I think you gave me a recipe but I can't find it.
FYI, my sister in law and her husband did research on curcumin and Altzheimers disease and they had really good results using rats as their model.  Those that were given a certain dose of curcumin didn't had brain cell damage versus those rats that were not given curcumin. I believe they also worked on brain cancer cells and it slowed the growth of a very aggressive type of brain cancer. There is much research in this area and it is all good. My husband and I went totally vegan cold turkey ha ha, and after a few months we felt much better in alot of ways. More energy, and better digestion etc. It is hard to do if you have eaten meat all your life to get all the nutrients you need. It takes longer to cook or figure out how to get enough protein etc and other nutrients. But the "Greek" diet which is a diet high in fruits and vegies, plus very low meat intake and lots of whole grains (if you are not allergic) and goat cheese is ok.
thanks,

You only need 15 minutes in the sun to get your daily dose of D! Then you should put on your sun block.
One frequently overlooked way to enhance and optimize health with organically grown food is the use of herbs and spices – unprocessed and organic, of course.
One amazing benefit of these herbs is that they’re very low in calories, while being dense in vitamins and minerals.
In the same vein, they’re thermogenic, meaning they naturally boost your metabolism to help you burn calories. You feel satisfied more easily, so you eat less. Studies show that consuming certain herbs and spices before each meal can potentially reduce your caloric intake.
Due to their nutrient-dense status, they promote your overall wellbeing with antioxidants more potent than many fruits and veggies.
Herbs and spices promote health and wellbeing in your entire body, not just in a particular area.
This "whole person" approach is why I believe these spices and herbs can benefit you so greatly.
But consider one particular spice the “granddaddy” of them all, because its benefits are so amazing and far-reaching.
Just as it's important to select and consume wholesome, unprocessed organic foods, you should do the same with herbs and spices.
Avoid breezing down the spice aisle of your local grocery store to pick up any old herb or spice. It is important to be very selective.
If the herb or spice you're looking for is processed or not organically grown, you risk missing out on their most potent active ingredients, which provide you with optimal benefits. If the herb or spice isn't cultivated, harvested, produced, and packaged using certified organic processes, you could be robbed of its healthful active ingredients.
In fact, totally avoid herbs and spices that aren't 100% certified organic. Why waste your time and risk potential health consequences from artificial ingredients and questionable chemical processes?
India is the home of Ayurveda, recognized as an authoritative source of knowledge and truth in natural health promotion with herbs and spices lying at the very heart of Ayurvedic practice. So it would make perfect sense to consider using herbs that were grown in India if you are considering Ayurvedic herbs
turmeric. It provides you with these whole-person benefits:
Supports your healthy joint function, Promotes your radiant skin, Helps improve your digestion. And so much more
one thing is certain. Thousands of years ago, people in India and China used the spice.
"There is also a vegetable which has all the properties of true saffron, as well the smell and the color, and yet it is not really saffron."
So, turmeric has been used as a substitute for saffron (an old world spice) in Europe for over 700 years.
One of the main healthful ingredients in turmeric is curcumin (a curcuminoid),
Western scientists first isolated the curcumin molecule in 1815, obtained its crystalline form in 1870, and determined its overall structure in 1910.
Curcumin can potentially benefit you by:Promoting your immune system against stress
Promoting your immune system Helping you maintain your healthy digestive system
Supporting your healthy bones, joints, and overall skeletal system
Helping you maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range
Promoting your healthy blood and liver functions
How Turmeric and Curcumin Provide Antioxidant Nutrients You probably know that antioxidants are important for your health. antioxidants are your body's #1 way to neutralize free radicals and help you potentially slow down the signs of normal aging.
Oxidation by free radicals can damage cells and organs -- and thus impact your aging process Antioxidants are also key nutrients in: Supporting your memory function,
Promoting your heart health,Boosting your immune system
Turmeric's antioxidants help protect your cells from free radical damage.
The antioxidant content within turmeric comes from active compounds called curcuminoids. These curcuminoids deliver antioxidants that may be: 5 to 8 times stronger than vitamin E -- and also stronger than vitamin C 3 times more powerful than grape seed or pine bark extract Strong enough to scavenge the hydroxyl radical -- considered by many to be the most reactive of all oxidants Buy organic-based turmeric supplement.

I don't think doctors remove tonsils as often as they used to.  It isn't really recommended like it used to be.  I am familiar with what you are talking about, since this has been quite similar to my own story.  In fact, it got so bad that a really awful virus nearly killed me.

What I recommend is to have your doctor test your vitamin D levels.  Very likely, you have vitamin D deficiency.  This is pretty common all around the world these days, even in the sub tropical areas of the world because of the way we live and work in the modern world.  And, because the sun has been villifed too much as the culprit or cause of skin cancer.  Actually, a modest amount of sun exposure (not overexposure) will help you out.  It is important not to go out so long you get burned.  You can find excellent information about vitamin D and deficiency and what to do about it at mercola.com and on the Vitamin D Council's website.

I would seriously check the vitamin D levels before resorting to surgery.
