Wow. So much to deal with in a short time. When his two other kids were diagnosed, nobody contacted him? Two siblings with Marfans clearly makes it genetic. I am so glad you know now for your kids' sake.
I obviously don't know much about your circumstances, but I would be making inquiries about liability. I am not a "sue happy" person, but with all the physical characteristics, missing it sounds like negligence to me.
actually he did have every physical characteristic.. I've had to learn alot in a very short time. But yes, I don't know why it wasnt caught on time.. it was pretty obvious. bad luck i guess. He had bad stomache pain a few days before he dies .. now I know it was a sign for aortic dissection. I alrrady know our 2 year old has it just by looking at him .. I thought he was gonna look like Daddy but it was the Marfans. Got all three of our kids to the cardiologist anf they all have enlarged aortas... and two other children he has (prior relationship) but didnt have contact with for about a year were also diagnosed with marfans a few months back :(
I am so sorry for your loss! What a tragedy! I am surprised that none of his doctors ever figured it out. It is not so rare that doctors would be unfamiliar with it.bI have heard of others with Marfan who died young of heart valve failure, and I am so sorry to hear it wasn't caught early in his life. My deepest condolences.
Do you have any children? Be sure to tell all his blood family members as it is usually a genetic condition. Some people who have Marfan Syndrome don't have the obvious physical symptoms except for height, and don't know without a genetic test.
Thanks for your comment.... sadly my husband just passed away. His aorta ruptured. Turns out he had Marfans Syndrome and was never diagnosed by any of the "specialists" he was seeing. Now we know why he was always in so much pain , and the lung condition . :(
It is hard to tell from your post. Your descriptions are vague.
It sounds like he is killing himself with cigarettes. If he already has COPD, asthma, and a history of 6 (!) collapsed lungs, why in the world is he still smoking?
Diabetes also takes a heavy toll on the body and can compromise the immune system. I would guess if he focused on quitting smoking, improving his diet, and controlling his blood sugar, then he could see what, if any issues remain to be addressed.
