accidental butane exposure

Hi,

I am probably being a bit paranoid on this and I think no harm was done but would still like to hear your advice.

So yesterday I was changing one of those pierceable butane cartridges in a butane lamp. Foolishly I was doing this inside. The problem was that what I though was an empty cartridge still contained a good amount of gas. When I first started to loosen the cartridge I heard some hissing but thought it was just some residual gas getting out. As I loosened it a bit more gas came out with generous flow. I quickly tightened it back so the actual leak was only for a couple of seconds. However the smell of the gas was quite intense and quickly spread across our house. We opened windows but since there wasn't much draft it took a while to clear the smell completely.

In the same room there was my 5 month old son but we quickly took him out of that room.

I didn't feel and dizzyness or other symptoms apart from a strange 'taste' at the back of my throat so I am guessing that no harm was done. However I am a bit concerned about my son as I don;t know if he felt any symptoms - although he didn't cry or anything so I guess he felt nothing abnormal.

My question is can this brief exposure have any heath effect on me or my son ? I am mainly concerned as the smell was quite intense, but the leak was only sustained for a few seconds .

What do you think ?

Thanks

It was quick and you took care of the situation, I doubt if any harm has been done to either of you.
