Thank you for your input.  Swelling is a bit better today.  I will contact MD is it gets worse.

Thank you very much for your input.  My swelling is not in the face or close areas that is why I asked here.  Gyno suspects bacterial infection.  Culture taken, but no results until tomorrow.  My symptoms were so bothersome that I requested to start flagyl right away.  Symptoms are better today so something is working.  No pitting that I can see.  I will contact MD if swelling gets worse.  Today it is a bit better.  Thanks again.

I would suggest you just give your doctor a call ....it depends on how bad the swelling is and if it is "pitting" or not.  ( Pitting is when you push down on your skin, does it make an indention and then you count how many seconds it takes for the skin to return to normal appearance.  1 sec is +1, 2 sec is +2, and etc.  anything more then 4 sec is generally referred to as just +4)  It may also depend on what you are taking the flagyl for.  For example...if it is for any infection related to your kidneys I would be more concerned then if it was for something like the treatment of C-diff.  I hope this is helpful!

it appears that it's not a common side-effect of the antibiotic so no it's not really okay.

I've found this info about Metronidazole

"Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to metronidazole: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:"

what are you taking it for? do you have any pathologies? are you taking other drugs along with it?

have they checked your liver and renal function?

maybe the swelling is caused by the toxicity of the drug on liver or kidneys or an adverse immunological reaction which means it's the wrong treatment.
