Hi dj05,
You are correct, the total WBC count it is low with HIV not high. So I wouldn't worry about that. But to be sure you can get an HIV test and then later if it is negative then wait for 6 months and repeat (This is only if you were worried about it and want to check anyway) by then you would know if your test is positive. You usually become positive by then. A high total WBC count can be due to  a lot of things. It is like when you have a fever and trying to find out what disease you have because you have a fever. You would need more information such as when they do a complete blood count, which type of white cells are high. There are many types of white cells that are all counted in a total WBC count. There are neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, and each have a normal percentage. They may check this next time if you count is still high. There are some diseases where the Neutrophils are high (as in bacterial infection for example) , chronic diseases such as TB (get a skin test), hepatitis, mononucleosis (the lymphocytes are high), steroid use, exposure to chemicals, certain drug use such as lithium, beta agonists, Monocytes are high with TB, malaria, colitis and so forth.

Since you are tired you may be fighing something. I would follow up though as the doctor suggested since the count is abnormally. high (above 10,000). 19,000 is high but moderately high compared to some things so I wouldn't worry just yet. It is too early to know what is going on. But again do get checked and try to find out the cause.

I looked at your post with fresh eyes this morning  and a high WBC count can be due to a lot of things. What was the value of the WBC count? Normal is about 5- 9,500 depending on the lab. If it is slightly high like 12,000 or so then it probably is a infection. If it is really high it can be a lot of other things. What are your symptoms?
take care,

My test came back that my count was 19000. I dont have any real symptoms, other than feeling tired. I was actually just gettng a physical for school. Some relatively personal info and reason i asked about the hiv was that my ex wife had cheated on me. I read yesterday that w hiv you would have a low count. I go back friday to get rechecked. Im assuming 19000 is very high?
